Doris M. Hammel-Lofky
In Loving Memory of Doris M. Hammel-Lofky with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Doris M. Hammel-Lofky, who departed this life on Friday, June 27, 2025, at the age of 94.
Doris leaves behind a fond memory in the hearts of those who knew her.
She is survived by her beloved children: Cindy (Tom) Zobel, Susan Vail-Cuellar, Janet (James) Betts, Michael (Mary Anne) Lofky, and David (Merly) Lofky; her adored grandchildren: Tom (Christine) Zobel, Sarah Zobel, Amy (Craig) Kaufman, Ashley Cuellar, Tyshana (Brandon) Grant, James (Jessica) Betts, Andrew Betts, Patrick Lofky, Michelle (Alex) Lindgren, Timothy Lofky, John (Kristy) Lofky, Michael Lofky, Laura Lofky, and Christopher (Ashley) Lofky; and 22 great-grandchildren. Doris was also a dear friend to Wilma Phillis and Rhonda (Tim) Deboard, and leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her deeply.
She now joins in eternal rest her first husband and the love of her life, Ronald Lofky, with whom she shared 35 beautiful years until his passing in 1985; her later husbands, James Gear and Arthur Hammel; her parents, Herschel and Irene Carlton; and her sisters, Lois Carlton and Elizabeth (Robert) Michalak.
Doris was raised in Lockport, Illinois, and graduated from Lockport Township High School in the Class of 1949. She loved to dance-her feet often found the rhythm at the Willowbrook Ballroom for over 20 years and at the Moose Lodge in Lockport. She took tap dancing lessons through the Joliet Conservatory of Music. Doris explored the beauty of the world, from the serene landscapes of Alaska and Utah to the sun-soaked shores of the Florida Keys and beyond.
A proud member of the Beta Sigma Phi social sorority for more than 70 years, Doris cherished the friendships and sisterhood she found there. Her words of wisdom-like her favorite sayings, "Everyone's a snowflake" and "Are you a toy or a treasure?"-will echo in the hearts of those who love her.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Doris's life during visitation on Monday, July 7, 2025, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Farkas Funeral Home, 3201 W. Jefferson St., Joliet, IL. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. on July 8, 2025, at Saint Patrick's Church at 710 W. Marion Street Joliet, IL. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Doris touched many lives and will be missed greatly and remembered always.
