Gary Hammitt Obituary

Hammitt, Gary D. Age 71. At rest Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at home. Born in McLean, IL to the late Harland and Louisa (Griffin) Hammitt, he was a long time resident of Channahon, relocating to Diamond, IL six months ago. Retired from Caterpillar, Inc. in 1998 following 34 years of service. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Betty (Phelps) Hammitt of Diamond; three children, Scott (Barb) Hammitt of Diamond, Jeffrey (Sherry) Hammitt of Jonesborough, TN and Lois (Scott) Clements of Minooka; four grandchildren, Breann and Ryan Hammitt, Jessica (John) Williams, and Danielle Clements; two great-grandchildren, two sisters, Sue (George) Griffin of Boise, ID and Shula (Jim) Dodson of Somonauk, IL; brother-in-law of Lois Chambers of Opdyke, IL and Wanda Carr of Cedar Rapids, IA; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Paul; and his sister, Sally Hammitt. Funeral Services for Gary D. Hammitt will be Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Betty, Jeff, Scott, and Lois. I have been slow to send condolences. I should know all of you better but time a family got in the way. Gary was a very loved man from his closest family.
