Schneider, Sr.

Howard James Schneider, Sr., age 74, of Shorewood, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2019, at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center. Howard was born in Chicago, the son of Wilbur and Rosemary (nee Mahoney) Schneider, and was a resident of Joliet since 1966, living in Shorewood since 1978. He retired from the Will County Sheriff's Office as a Sheriff's Deputy following 27 years of dedicated service. Following retirement, Howard worked in security for the Will County Courthouse and the River Valley Juvenile Center. He was a member of the Exchange Club.

Howard enjoyed spending time at his lake house in Warsaw, IN, as well as scuba diving and traveling. On their 50th wedding anniversary, Howard and Joyce took a family vacation to the Cayman Islands to scuba dive with their children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed the outdoors with his wife, son and daughter-in-law when traveling to Colorado.

Howard is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Joyce (nee Lunski) Schneider of Shorewood; his two sons, Howard (Julie) Schneider, Jr. of Fort Wayne, IN and David (Patty) Schneider of Arvada, CO; four grandchildren, William, Sarah, Ryan and Clare Schneider; his mother, Rosemary Schneider of Joliet; and sister, Patricia Schneider of Dayton, OH.

He was preceded by his father, Wilbur Schneider.

The family would like to extend their sincere thank you to Dr. Suh and staff of JOHA as well as the 5th floor and the intensive care unit at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center for all of their genuine care.

Visitation for Howard James Schneider, Sr. will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2019, from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Funeral Services will be Thursday at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to Church of St. Jude, 2212 McDonough Street, Joliet where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. As it was his request, cremation rites will be accorded following services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to JOHA, 2614 W. Jefferson St., Joliet, IL 60435 would be appreciated.
