Joannet E. Fleming
Joannet E. Fleming, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025, in Joliet, Illinois, at the age of 97. Joannet was born on July 28, 1928, in Oak Lawn, Illinois, the daughter of the late John and Mabel (nee Holmes) Schoob. She lived a long and full life marked by kindness, service, and deep devotion to her family and community.
A graduate of Calumet High School, Joannet was a talented and dedicated seamstress, plying her craft for many years at Bernards in Joliet. Her creativity and attention to detail left an impression not just in her work, but in the hearts of those she graced with handmade gifts and garments. Her passion for sewing and knitting endured throughout her life, bringing beauty and comfort to those around her.
Joannet found purpose beyond the home and workplace through her generous spirit and community involvement. Actively volunteering with Goose Lake Prairie Partners, where she also served as a past president, she was honored with a state award for her dedicated service. A proud member of both the Will and Grundy County Farm Bureaus, she passionately supported local agriculture and conservation. Her philanthropic nature touched numerous organizations, including, Sweet Adeline's, PTA, and the Cub Scouts' where she was a Dean Mother. Joannet was also a former choir member with both Theodore Street Lutheran Church and St. Mary Church in Coal City. Her generosity has left a lasting mark on many lives.
Those who knew Joannet often described her as passionate, generous, and friendly. Her vibrant energy, whether expressed through singing, crafting, or caring for others, brought joy and warmth to every gathering.
Joannet is survived by her devoted children, Regina (the late Walter) Fleming Stephens, James Edward (Deborah) Fleming, and John David (Karin) Fleming; six grandchildren, John Jacob (Gina) Fleming, James Gunther Fleming, Kathryn Joannet Stephens, Christopher David Fleming, Thomas Dawson (Nerie) Stephens, and Colleen (Nicholas Costa) Stephens; three great-grandchildren, Dawson Noel Stephens, Elizabeth Joan Fleming, and Kyla Louise Stephens; and her sister, Jacqueline (Steven) Andros. She will also be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded by her husband James B. Fleming, with whom she built a loving family and lasting legacy; her parents; and one brother, John William Schoob.
Visitation for Joannet E. Fleming will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, IL, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home chapel on Monday, August 25, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Goose Lake Prairie State Park Partners, 5010 N. Jugtown Road, Morris, IL 60450, would be appreciated.
