Steven Egan Obituary

Steven R. Egan
Steven R. Egan, devoted father, and longtime serving Police Officer, passed away on August 6, 2021, in an unexpected motorcycle accident in Sioux City, Iowa, at the age of 68. Born in Joliet, IL, son to Robert F. Egan and Rosemary (nee Davito) Egan he was the oldest of six children. Steven was preceded in death by his oldest daughter Stephanie (2004), survived by his daughters Kimberley and Kelly along with his siblings: Patrick M. (Patricia) Egan, Debra Crampton, Lisa (Michael) Rozgony, John J. Egan, Susan A. (Grant) Bell, numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family, and many dear friends.
Steven began his 43 years of service in 1973 with the City of Joliet Police Department where he served for 11 years before later joining the Will County Sheriff's Department in 1989. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1997 and promoted to Lieutenant in 2003. Steven also served with the Will County Forest Preserve Police Department from 1992 through 2009.
In his free time, Steven enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was the Vice President of the American Knights M/C, Joliet Chapter. He always said that God had a plan and when it was his time to go, he hoped it would be doing what he was passionate about, riding his motorcycle.
But more than anything, Steven loved spending time with his daughters. He had a heart of gold and cared deeply for his family, friends, and community. His endless generosity, kindness, sense of humor, and dedication touched the lives of countless people. Knowing him was a blessing and the void we all feel will forever remain in our hearts.
"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal"

I have lost many people in my life, but Steve is one of the very few of which I cannot wrap my head around the loss. You were a great friend for many years and "uncle" to my children. You are and always will be missed, 'til we meet again.

My daughters and I losing Steve means that we lost our dearest, sweetest, and most compassionate man in our lives. He helped me through many difficult times and was always there for us, if even just for a few minutes on the phone, Steve always had me laughing and looking forward to such positive things in life. We miss him so much. He will forever be a part of our hearts. Our love is with Kim, Kelly, Susan and all his family & friends during this time. Missing you dear friend, xox

It was a long ago night in February, 1974 and I was a junior in high school. A car full of cute boys pulled up next to my car full of girls. When the light turned green I accelerated while still looking at the boys and rear ended the squad car in front of me, driven by Officer Steve Egan (so humiliating for a teenage girl trying to be cool!!) I´m 63 yrs old now and all these years later I still remember his kindness and understanding. I kept the newspaper clipping!
