E. Kathryn "Kathy" Swedock

Darien Resident E. Kathryn (Kathy) Swedock, a resident of Darien, passed away early Wednesday morning, December 31, 2014, from complications of her Multiple Myeloma. Born on April 20, 1948, in Providence, Rhode Island, Kathy was the daughter of Hubert McGuirl and Eileen McGuirl (nee Whelan). She was 66 years old. Kathy grew up in Rhode Island and graduated from NYU. She met her husband, Theodore (Ted) J. Swedock, Jr., in the 60’s while she was learning to ski on Magic Mountain in Vermont and they were married in 1970. Kathy and Ted moved to Darien in the early 70’s and were residents ever since. Kathy was a fantastic athlete: an avid tennis player and an even more avid golfer. Like Ted, she loved to ski and to sail, and she was an unbelievably talented seamstress. She had a laugh and a smile that everyone looked forward to and there was nothing she loved more than having a great time with family and friends. She was fun, hilarious, adventurous, and brave and she tackled life head-on. She and Ted traveled the world together, making friends everywhere they went, particularly on Cape Cod and in Spain. She was an incredible Mom, and we miss her very much. Kathy is survived by her children Theodore (Todd) J. Swedock III of Darien, Elizabeth W. Swedock of Norwalk and her husband Andrew D. Malewicz and Valeri Grimes of Swampscott, MA, her husband, Daniel Grimes and their children, Allison and Jennifer. She was predeceased by her husband, Ted, earlier this year. Kathy is also survived by her three brothers Michael McGuirl, James McGuirl and Hubert McGuirl, Jr. and several nieces and nephews. A wake will be held at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Monday, January 5, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas More R.C. Church, 374 Middlesex Road, Darien on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 10:30 am with reception to follow.
