Walter Eads Obituary

Walter Myles Eads died on Easter morning, April 5, 2015. Walter was born in Dorr, West Virginia on May 19, 1925 to Clarence and Gladys Eads. After attending Rutgers University, he worked for Lonestar Industries for 38 years and was a chief purchasing agent for this company which provided the materials for the foundation of the Space Needle in Seattle. He married Ada Steele Eads in 1947 and they shared their lives for 64 years until her death in 2011. During their life together, Walter and Ada lived in Virginia and New Jersey before moving to Westport in 1970. He joined the Green’s Farms Congregational Church that year and his church home became not only his place to worship but also his family. He served as moderator, chair of the trustees, chair of deacons and treasurer at the church for several years. After an accident in 2010 necessitated selling his home on High Point Road where he had served as treasurer for the neighborhood association, Walter moved to Middlebrook Farms in Trumbull. There he organized a residents’ council by writing a constitution and set of by-laws. He was a bit surprised when they elected him president which only made sense. Walter was known and loved by the people at his residence, yet the people at Green’s Farms Church were the ones he really thought of as family. Members of the church helped pack up his home and move him to Middlebrook Farms and then became his drivers to church every Sunday for Bible Study as well as the church service. Walter is survived by his cousin, Earl Van Stavern of Florida who was raised from infancy with Walter by Walter’s mother. A celebration of Walter’s life will be held on what would have been his 90th birthday, May 19, 2015 at Green’s Farms Church at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Green’s Farms Church.
