Wayne Watson Obituary

Wayne Watson
Wayne A. Watson, of Norwalk, CT, died peacefully Monday, July 5, 2021, in the comfort of his home. Born July 29, 1940, in Norwalk, he was the son of the late Herbert Watson Sr. and Dora Haughton Watson of Norwalk. He graduated from Norwalk High School, class of 1958.
As a young man he excelled in basketball and baseball, forever loyal to his favorite team, the Brooklyn Dodgers. He never got over the Dodgers leaving Brooklyn but remained passionate about sports, sharing his enthusiasm with his sons and then his grandchildren, always encouraging their athletic pursuits.
Wayne loved to travel to his favorite vacation place, Florida, to enjoy the warm weather with his friends, but when at home his greatest pleasure was cooking for the family. No one could carve a turkey like Wayne Watson!
Wayne will be remembered for his kindness and love of laughter, but above all, for the way he adored his family.
He is survived by his beloved life partner, Jennifer Gibbs of Norwalk and devoted sons, Collin Watson and his wife Severine Debaisieux of Branford and Jared Watson and his wife Laura of Boston, MA. He will be forever remembered by his cherished grandchildren, Ben, Liam and Amélie of Branford and Duke and Quinn of Boston, MA. He will be sadly missed by his daughter, Joni Smit of Phoenix, AZ, whom he just recently connected with.
In addition, he is survived by his brother, Herbert Watson Jr. and sister, Kathleen Watson. He was predeceased by his sisters, Jacqueline Dayton and Beverly Watson-Matos.
He will be lovingly remembered by former wife and friend, Cherryl Watson of East Haven as well as his nieces, nephews, and treasured friends.
A celebration of life, hosted by the family, will be held at a later date. Details will be available through Jennifer Gibbs and Jared Watson (contact information available through Collins Funeral Home).

He is remembered with love and often by me. He was so kind to me and I am so fortunate to have known him and spent many happy times with him and my cousin, Jen. He was a wonderful person as evidenced by so many good friends and family that loved him and miss him so very much.

Words cannot express how sorry we were to hear of Wayne's passing. He always had an unassuming personality that was made up of kindness and love. When I think of Wayne, i can't help thinking of what a perfect gentleman he was. Our prayers and thoughts are with you Jennifer and Wayne's families.

I am Jennifer's cousin from Newfoundland. I spent lots of time with Wayne when I visited. He often told Jen that he loved me and the feeling was mutual. Not many people would get up at 3 am to take me to LGA. To refuse his kindness would have been an insult. He texted me often especially when I had pneumonia or an asthma attack. He always asked about my son and my husband though he never met them. He was a true friend, always kind to me and his messages always cheered me up. He loved his family and I was blessed to be treated the same way. I loved you and will miss you, Wayne.
