David F. Janssen, 65, of Cairo, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2025, peacefully at his home.

Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island is entrusted with the arrangements.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Heartland Spring Calvary Chapel (801 Stoeger Drive) in Grand Island with Pastor Sam Lewman officiating.

Inurnment will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 25, 2025, at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings, Nebraska.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are kindly suggested to the Central Nebraska Humane Society, 1312 Sky Park Road, Grand Island, NE 68801.

David was born July 14, 1960, in Hastings, Nebraska, to Frank H. Janssen and Berniece Janssen/Schumm and George Schumm. He was raised in Hastings and graduated from Hastings High School.

David worked at the Clay Center Animal Research Center. He moved to Colorado for two years and then moved back to Nebraska. He spent 39 years working at Bosselman's Truck Stop. He was always willing to work weekends and holidays for those with families and needs.

He enjoyed camping and fishing with his family. However, cleaning fish was not his ideal task. He once was cleaning a Nebraska Catfish, and it did not want to participate. It moved, and Dave whacked it and continued the cleaning. It moved more, and Dave made sure it was done, all this while a new sister-in-law was watching. It sure made her wonder what she married into!

Dave also loved classic cars, spending time at car shows and working on them. The one he kept the longest was a 1953 Packard. He also had a 1958 Thunderbird for a time.

He is survived by his brothers, Wesley, Wendle "Lee", and Dale.

Dave is preceded in death by his father, Frank; mother, Berniece; and stepfather, George.
