Dorothy Mix Obituary
Brooktondale - Dorothy Yaple Mix, age 80, passed away on December 8th after several years of declining health. Born December 12, 1936, in the Town of Caroline she was a daughter of the late James Percy Yaple and Marjory Goodrich Yaple. She was graduated from Newark Valley High School in 1954 and married her husband, Lawrence Mix in 1959, who survives her. Dorothy is also survived by son Donald Mix; daughter, Teresa Mix; grandson Robert (Emily) Mix; granddaughters Casey (Jeremy) Frederici and Jennifer (Shondel Wright) Davis; two beautiful great-grandchildren; a sister Anne (Maurice) Stoughton and brother Frank (Suzanne) Yaple; nieces, nephews and cousins. Dotty worked at NYSEG and Cornell prior to staying home to raise her children and work on the family farm. Dotty and Larry sold the dairy animals in 1992 but continued raising livestock and working the land for several years before retiring fully. She played a very important role in raising her grandchildren, caring for them while their parents worked which required her to rise at 4:30 am for barn chores before babysitting. She was a fabulous cook, and took pride in keeping a large vegetable garden as long as her health permitted. She enjoyed traveling in their motor home, and took in many bluegrass festivals over the years. Calling hours will be held from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main Street, Dryden, NY. There will be a luncheon, at a location to be announced, after the visitation. Burial will be private in Caroline Grove Cemetery. Our sincere sympathy to the family. I have many fond memories spent in Caroline Center with the Yaple and Mix family.
Dottie was a great host when Bob and I visited. She and Larry always made us feel so welcome. Lots of laughs and good times.
Dottie had a great sense of humor and a terrific smile. She will be missed.

Very glad to have had one last visit with her, brief as it was. She was a good friend to my mother, for that she will always hold a special place in my heart. My condolences to the Mix family and especially to her grandchildren who gave her such loving care during her final days.
