Carubia, Paul Cosmo

Paul Cosmo Carubia, 59, of Ithaca, NY passed away on October 30, 2013 after a short battle with lung cancer. Paul was born November 1, 1953 in New Haven, CT to the late Salvatore and Ermen Gilda Carubia. He grew up along the shoreline of Branford, CT where he developed his love of the water, fishing, swimming and boating on Long Island Sound with his family. He graduated from Branford High School in 1971. Paul attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon (Zeta Mu), and received a degree in civil and environmental engineering in 1976. He continued his studies and research at Cornell University. Paul was an avid motor enthusiast, driving around the track in his BMW with his son. Paul was owner and president of Enviro-Control Technologies, Inc and PB Associates LLC. in Ithaca. His utmost pride and joy in life though, was his 7 year old son Alessandro Cosimo Carubia. In addition to his son, Paul is survived by his wife, Sonraeanna Pagliaro Carubia, of Hector, NY; a step-daughter Victoria Pagliaro-Katz, of San Diego, CA; his brother John, and sister-in-law Valerie of Guilford, CT; his half sister Pauline Cacioppo of Mystic, CT; his brothers-in-law Matthew Pagliaro (Julie), Michael Pagliaro, Mark Pagliaro, all of Ithaca; his aunt and uncle, Sue and Paul Cacioppo of East Haven, CT; his niece and godchild Melissa Carubia; his nephews Jason and Kevin Carubia, Symphonie Pagliaro, Matthew Pagliaro, Nicholas Pagliaro, Mikaela Pagliaro, Giovanni Pagliaro; cousins Sheri and Michael Cacioppo, Robert Carubia and Ginny Borgia; and his close and beloved friends, Melanie Ahouse, Wade Geer, John Grady, Steven Lichak, Susan Vance and the love and respect of many friends and professional in the community. Paul will be missed by all. May he rest in peace. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday November 5, at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church. Friends may call Monday November 4, from 4-6 PM at Bangs Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lakeview Cemetery, 605 East Shore Drive, Ithaca, NY.

I have fond memories of Paul from our time at Cornell. While we did not keep in touch on a regular basis after we graduated, I still smile when I think of him. I was sorry to learn of his passing. I still recall how much he enjoyed his BMW sports car. He seemed to enjoy life and had a wonderful sense of humor.

I met Paul when he lived in Slaterville - he was always fixing my cars. I remember when my car broke down on Midline Rd and I called him, he came out, looked at the engine, picked up some rusty wire from the side of the road and fixed it! One of the good ones.

Paul was friend I truly admired. I first met Paul when he was living in Slaterville Springs through my brother, Bobby. As my business grew Paul moved into the environmental field as well. Paul was very ethically driven in a tough field which I admired. Though I retired from that business and haven't seen Paul for several years. He was a true friend I admired and loved..
