She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Wilbanks of Jefferson, GA, her mother Ora Wier Wilbanks of Jefferson, GA, her brother William Wilbanks of Jefferson, GA and her great-grandson Connor Joseph Lingle of Savannah, GA.
"Chick" was born on November 11, 1929, in Jefferson, GA. After graduating high school from the historic Martin Institute, she moved to Atlanta, where she attended business school and took a position at The First National Bank of Atlanta. While working in Atlanta, Chick rented a room from the Trenthams on Poplar Circle near Little Five Points. There she met a young sailor, Charlie Harrell, home on liberty visiting his parents next door. They dated, married in 1951 and raised three children, Andrew, Amy and Eric; a union which lasted more than 66 years until Charles' death in 2017.
After 7 moves in their first 21 years of marriage, 1972 brought them to Lancaster, S.C., their final home. She was an active member of the community, including serving on the Elliot White Springs Memorial Hospital Auxiliary board, where, as president, she was involved in the formation of the Marion Sims Foundation. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Lancaster for over 45 years where she served in countless capacities. A woman of quiet and abiding faith, a gracious host, fiercely devoted to her friends, community and family, Chick was the anchor of her family and will be with us always.
A service is scheduled for Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Chick's life.
