Shirley Newton Obituary

LANCASTER, S.C. - Ms. Shirley Ann Newton, age 82, passed away August 21, 2025.
She was born September 3, 1942, in Williamsburg County, S.C., a daughter of the late Norman Newton and Letha Martin Newton.
Shirley was the oldest of nine children and after her mother passed, she helped her father raise her siblings. She was a kind, wonderful, humble, genuine, pure lady with an infectious smile and never met a stranger. She never spoke a harsh word about anyone and loved everyone she met and everyone loved her. She befriended everyone she met.
Shirley was an avid Atlanta Braves and Gamecock fan. She loved the mountains and looking out at her flowers in the yard. Family was most important to her, and she loved them all dearly, especially her daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter, and grandpup, Jingles. Shirley had strong faith and loved her church, First Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Karen Brackett and her husband, Stacy; granddaughter, Natalie Brackett; numerous nieces and nephews; and many close special friends who were more like family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Letha Newton; brothers, Norman "Jr." Newton Jr., David "Fig" Newton, Charles Newton, and William Newton; and sisters, Retha "Nookie" Vincent, Kathleen "Catie" Langley, Mary "Pinky" Lucas, and Ernestine "Winky" Crenshaw.
The Celebration of Life Service for Shirley will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at First Pentecostal Holiness Church officiated by Rev. Tommy Ross and Rev. Dale Walters. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, August 25, 2025, at Burgess Funeral Home and other times at the home of Karen and Stacy Brackett.
