AUSTIN PIERSON Obituary

AUSTIN PIERSON GREENVILLE, MAINE: Austin Alfred Pierson, 78, died peacefully at his home in Greenville, ME with his family by his side on Thursday, August 21, 2025. Austin was born on August 6, 1947, in Worcester, MA to Stanley and Henrietta (Austin) Pierson. He graduated from North High in Worcester (1965) and Worcester Industrial Technical Institute (1967). A member of Local 57 of Worcester, he worked as an iron worker and welder most of his life. Austin owned and operated R.L. Ryder steel erection company out of Rutland, MA for 30 years. Austin was a man who enjoyed life fully. In his younger years, he spent summers playing at Cross Lake in St. Agatha, Maine with his cousins and in the logging camps with his well-known grandfather Cash Austin. Austin was proud of his grandfather's legacy and regaled family and friends with stories about his famous Allagash game warden grandfather. Austin loved hunting and fishing, traveling extensively through-out Maine, Canada and Alaska doing so. He shared his love of the outdoors with his children. Camping, hiking, boating, exploring and skiing were his favorite family activities. After the death of his young wife, he became a pilot, flying his children from Massachusetts to Greenville nearly every weekend for many years, to spend time with her family. After retirement, Austin moved to Greenville full time, spending winters snowmobiling with friends and summers on the lake or puttering in the yard. He also enjoyed target shooting with his friend Bruce at Big Pine Gun Club, playing cribbage with his son and grandson and trips to Owl's Head Transportation Museum, where he was a long-time member, treasuring his love of antique cars. He relished time with his grandkids taking them on adventures and playing monopoly. In the summers of 2023 and 2024, he picked up a seasonal job with the Maine Forest Service working as a laborer. He described this as the best job he ever had and was heartbroken when he was physically unable to continue to work. Austin was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Henrietta (Austin) Pierson; wife, Randy; and brother, Myles Pierson. Austin is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Lee (husband Rex); daughter, Jessica Biron (husband Tim); son, Kendall Pierson; grandchildren, Spencer and Mason Lee, and Hannah and Ella Biron; great-grandchildren, Weston and Malcom Lee; brother, Mark Pierson; and many nieces and nephews. Family would also like to acknowledge Austin's incredible longtime friends, Pete, Dana and Dominic Merloni, Dr. Paul Potvin, Mike Wisniewski, Gary and Terry Hawkins, Chris and Deb Currier. As well as good neighbors, David and Amy Wilbur, and sister-in-law, Judy Folsom. Thank you to Beacon Hospice for the incredible care Austin received. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Lakeside At Moosehead Lake Event Center, 35 Pritham Ave, Greenville Maine from 1-5pm.
