I stumbled upon this and am quite speechless and moved to respond out of respect. To the surviving family and his friends, may his memory be celebrated and cherished amongst you. Specifically to the family, his sacrifice is honored with every Marine, Soldier, Sailor and Airman enlistment for we know what may be asked of us and dare swear to give it all. Thank you for his gift of service. Bless all of you, in Jesus' name.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and to also let the Amper Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one, Nicanor Amper IV US Army Sergeant. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

My name is Rhonda Clanton, I am SFC James G Clanton's wife. Your son Nic was a former solider of my husbands at Ft Benning. I just wanted to let you know that I thought so much of your son. I first met him at a cook out that my husband and I had at our home for his soilders. Nic made such an impression. He was one of the most polite people that I have ever had the honor of knowing.

Nic loved my cooking. My husband has heard him tell other soldiers "Don't even think about it! Ms Rhonda made that plate for me". When ever he would come over, I always sent him home to-go plates.

Nic and I became friends and even when he no-longer was in the unit with Jim, and he knew Jim was deployed, he would call on my Birthday, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I just wanted to say today, that my thoughts are always with you and your family and that you should be very proud of your son. I know that I am a better person for knowing him.

To the family of Sgt. Nicanor Amper:
Nicanor gave the ultimate sacrifice and will be held in the hearts of Americans forever. I cannot and will not let our fallen heroes be forgotten. My deepest sympathy to you. "Some gave all."

July 3, 2012

One of Nicanor's Favorites:

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green [1] pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest [2] my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Love you son!

Nic, you and Connik wre the first two friends I ever had. I'll always remember the good times together on Kilo Ave. Playing baseball, playing
football in the street and in the mud at Doer park, swimming in your pool, and everything else we did as kids. I remember playing war with our toy guns and how even back then you knew you were going to join the Marines when you grew up. You set your mind to it and you did it.
We lost touch when you moved away, but I've never forgotten the times we had. I'll always regret never getting in touch with you again as an adult. Judging by what I've read here you grew into a great man who is mourned and missed by many. Rest in peace my friend.

Nic,

There is so much left to say and no time left to say it in, but I do take the time to talk to you in spirit at least once a day. I miss you so much and everytime I feel down I look up and know that you are looking down saying LBK it is going to be ok so don't worry. Then I think about a time when you would just laugh, you must have the brightest laugh I have ever heard, to this day I can just laugh at your laugh. You are truly a hero and a very loved person. Thanks for all the talks and the advice and just thanks for everything. Much love and respect goes to you from me.

Amper was by far the most loyal soldier I've ever known. I served with him in South Korea. This is a man who would go out of his way at any time, day or night, to help out a friend. Downrange at the bars, or on the battlefield, I can't think of another man I'd rather have watching my back. You will never be forgotten.

My jaw dropped when I first heard the news.. My first thought was one of my oldest friends was gone...

I have many, many memories of Nicky. We grew up in the same neighborhood from elementary through Jr. high.. If we weren't in school, we were out playing tag or riding bikes in the street.. or out at CPLL. He was one who had a contagious smile, laugh (and at one time a flat top) that was unmistakable. Always willing to give the shirt off of his back. A protective older brother and great friend.

I recently saw him about a year ago and he hadn't changed one bit. Hard to believe that's was the last time I'd ever talk to him...

Thank you for serving and protecting us and our country. Rest in peace my friend, you will be dearly missed.

I grieve for the loss that your parents, your brother, your wife and your boys and all that have remembered you here are suffering.

I thank you for your service to democracy and your protection of the innocent. I'm proud to have known you Little Nic. Rest in peace.

It's hard to come up with words to say what I want because the tears just start welling up and all I can think about is how unfair this is, but that's what we do as service members and we accept that risk. I have so many fond memories of my Marine Corps Brother and your memory will always be close to my heart. To your family, know this, Nic was a favorite amongst all that he served with and it was an honor to have served with him. God Bless him for now he is gaurding the streets of Heaven where I will see him again someday.

Amper Family,

I had the privilege of serving with nic in the marines. He was not only my friend, but a brother who I held close to my heart. The world is a lesser place without him because he brought so much joy and happiness to everyone he met, in & out of the military. RIP Nic, I will see again one day my brother. Semper Fidelis!!

It had been years since I'd seen or spoke with Nic, but the memories are so vivid.

I remember very charming 11th grader always flashing a smile and asking if I would share some of whatever sweet confection I had in my backpack.

I remember him standing out in a crowd of rowdy teenaged boys as polite and sincere.

I remember him speaking very highly of his little brother; almost as though he were the little brother himself...yet cognizant of the fact that he had to set an example.

I remember meeting a man that stopped in to see if his mom was home to visit. She wasn't. After he left, I said to Nic, "Well he seems nice..." and him responding, "Yeah he's nice a'ight, but if he hurts my mom, I'll kill him." :) What a good son.

I remember the letters he'd write from Camp Pendleton and how much he looked forward to my goofy care packages consisting mostly of candy.

I remember him opening doors, pulling out chairs, NEVER accepting my offer to pay, and taking one of those famous hoodie sweatshirts off for me to wear when I was cold.

I remember him pulling up in that famous gold Del Sol in front of my parents' house. Too many *boys* would have honked the horn and waited. He parked, walked up to the door and knocked.

I remember him visiting me at work during my lunch hour to take me to a local taqueria and then to eat on a picnic bench at the park.

I remember him being very complimentary, but always respectful.

It hurts my heart to know that he's no longer on this earth, but find some comfort in knowing that based on his behavior here, he must have gotten a HUGE promotion in our Lord's Army.

I will never forget you.

I will always love you, and I will never forget you. My daughters and I are better people for having known you and had you in our lives. I am keeping your sons and your family in our prayers. You sacrificed your life to keep our other friends safe. You will always be my hero.
