A giant in spirit who was loved by many and who unselfishly gave to others. The tributes posted show how many, many lives he lovingly touched.
As the days, months and years pass, the fondest and sweetest of memories of Obrey will remain in our hearts.
May the family be comforted to know that many prayers are with you during this difficult time.

I had the privilege on several occasions back in the day to meet Obrey Wilson. He was an outstanding singer/songwriter in my opinion. I posted a write up on my Facebook page because I wanted people to remember him and his recordings. Time does have an affect on us as we go our ways in this world. Sometimes one's passing brings us back to reality and together in memory. Rest in Peace and thank you for sharing your talent.

I was just a teenager trying to get into the music business when I began playing for Obrey. Man did I learn a lot, not only about the music business, performing, what it takes to be a showman, etc., but also about life. As we traveled around the "chittlin' circuit" I learned even more about Black people in the South. People used to look forward to seeing the Obrey Wilson Show where ever we went, and we went from big halls and NCO clubs on the military bases to the little one room, one door junk joints back in the country woods with a big old potbelly stove in the middle of the room. When Obrey performed they all forgot their troubles, and the heads that were hanging low, the backs that were slumped all week from the heavy burdens they'd carried, straightened up and stood tall -- swaying to melodies that made them forget all of their troubles and just revel in soulful melodies & rhythms he pounded out to perfection night after night. He always traveled in style and when he drove up in his new Lincoln Continental (Mark 1, 2 3 or 4) he was sharp. I was only a kid and played bass for him for 3 or 4 years, but that really kindled my love for music, particularly the magic of the down home R & B sounds I learned how to play. I owe Obrey a lot. He gave a tall skinny kid a shot to make something of himself and keep a little money in his pocket and out of trouble. I had the best part time job in the world. I even paid for all of my sisters' high school graduation cap & gowns, Senior Class rings, etc. with the money I made. Now I play mostly jazz, the straight ahead stuff by Miles,Dizzy, Bird, etc. but I got my foundation from men like Obrey. I'm truly sorry you're gone. My deepest sympathies go to the family.

Obrey was a dear friend of the Martin/Smith family. He was an awesome singer and musician. What a loss, a man of faith that gave his tenth and more through his love to take care of the elderly. Obrey's heart of love and generous spirit will be missed in the atmosphere. RIP my Obrey!
