WINTER HAVEN - Elmo Bennett of Winter Haven went to be with God from heart failure Sunday, June 8, 2014, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was 77.
A native of Winter Haven, FL, born July 25, 1936 to George and Lois Blackford Bennett, Elmo has lived in this area his entire life. He, and his loving wife Linda of 31 years owned and operated Elmo's & Linda's Magical Dining. Prior to that, Elmo retired from Tampa Electric after 28 years, and he also retired from the US Naval Reserve after 34 years of service. Elmo was a member of Heartland Community Church, the Lions Club, Past Director of the Boy's Club, Past President of the Central Florida Magic Club and the Wizzards of Winter Haven, and he was a member of the Jaycees.
Elmo is survived by his wife Linda of Winter Haven; his son Michael Bennett and his wife Chrissy; his grandchildren: Dylan Deskins and Kerri Deskins. He is also survived by Mary Perry and Adriann Perry.
Memorial services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the Heartland Community Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Heartland Community Church Missions Fund. Condolences to the family can be sent to: www.oakridgefuneralcare.com .

When our son was in elementary school and learning magic, Elmo was always very kind and encouraging. We have always remembered his kindness. He was a special person.

Linda- I was very sorry to learn about Elmo's passing. I will always remember his magic tricks and the spark he had! He was very dear to my parents and will be deeply missed.

There's always an aura of sadness that sweeps over me when I read of the death of one of my classmates. Elmo and I were a part of the WHHS Class of 1954. I won't forget Elmo's Texas-sized
smile and friendliness. He was a character, to say the least.

Dear Linda and family, I was so glad to see you both at the recent Class of 56 reunion this past March. My heart is saddened by your loss, but with you I rejoice in his now experiencing the peace of God face to face with his Savior. I knew Elmo for High School days and was in his graduating class. We know Elmo is only removed from this Earth in body; but, certainly not in spirit for he is working his magic wherever his spirit flies, entertaining loved ones he has joined who preceded him.
