POLK CITY - Harry Lee Tyler, 77 of Polk City, Florida and formerly of Goode, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Kindred Hospital, Tampa, FL. due to a pulmonary embolism.
He was born on Thursday, June 4, 1931 in Bedford County, a son of the late Frank Lee Tyler and Blanche Leftwich Tyler. He was retired manager of Ames Department Store and was owner of Gravely Lawn and Garden Equipment, both in Waynesboro. He was a member of Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, three time past master of Masonic Lodge (Liberty # 95 & Mentow # 108) Past District Deputy Grand Master, York Rite, Scottish Rite, (32nd degree) Shrine, Order of the Eastern Star - Past Patron seven times, and a member of Terrace View Baptist Church, Forest, VA He was also a U. S. Naval Air Force veteran having served in the Korean War.
Surviving is his wife, Nancy Fitzgerald Tyler and two sons, Anthony Wayne Tyler & wife, Etta of New Hope, Joseph Lawrence Tyler & wife, Stephanie of Waynesboro; daughter, Debra Ann Tyler of Lynchburg; two brothers, Maurice L. Tyler of Forest, E. Douglas Tyler & wife, Nadeen of Rustburg; five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a number of nieces & nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 9, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Harry Stevens officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. Friends may call Sunday after 9 AM the family will receive friends from 3 until 6 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford. (540-586-3304).
