LINDA L. JOHLL, 70
HAINES CITY - On July 14, 2018, after a valiant knock-down-drag-out fight with cancer, Heaven gained a beautiful angel.
Linda Louise (Vorwald) Johll (known affectionately as Sister Mary Broken Rosary), 70, of Haines City, FL (formerly of Dubuque, IA) entered the gates of Heaven singing a karaoke favorite, 'Pour Me Another Tequila Sheila.'
Our beloved wife/ mother/ grandmother / sister/friend never took herself too seriously and was sassy and witty to the end...one of the things we loved most about her. Somehow she mastered being 'a tough ol' bird' while remaining a delicate flower. Linda never met a puppy or kitty that she didn't love. Or a sudoku. Or a crossword puzzle. Or a golf course. But snakes were a different story.
Although born in Wisconsin, she was a true Southern Belle, enjoying her retirement years in Florida. Linda was a quintessential Martha Stewart (only cuter!). She was a fabulous cook, baker, and seamstress, and passed her love and talents for these things down to her family, especially Teri. Her daughters and their Barbie dolls always wore the latest fashions thanks to her sewing skills (and immeasurable patience!) Mom fixed a torn-up Boochie and replaced Teddy's ear too many times to count. Although she was thrifty, and prided herself on her ability to 'make a silk purse out of a sow's ear,' she was always dressed 'to the nines.'
We all looked forward to her holiday meals and baking...no one could make a Thanksgiving feast or a flaky pie crust like her. Her Christmas cookies, fudge, and caramels were like no other. When radiation treatments took the pleasure of many foods from her, we followed her recipes to make her pink salad, applesauce, and banana pudding so she could enjoy them to the very end.
Mom was an excellent drivers' ed instructor, just ask Teri. And she was the house champion when playing 'blow 'em up guys' on the Odyssey game console. Only BJ was a challenger. She was a true competitor, but always knew when 'you just need a hug.' After thousands of rounds of golf, Linda hung up her clubs after hitting a career defining hole-in-one on the 13th hole at Grenelefe. It is in the pond on this hole that she requested an honorary water burial so she can finally retrieve all of the balls that she once lost there.
Linda will be sorely missed by her husband Bill, her three kids: BJ (Renee) Johll, Toni Johll, Teri (Bryan) Feyen; her four grandkids: Elinor Johll, Madeleine Feyen, Anna Johll and Max Feyen; her sister Joyce (Fran) Rowe (keep your eyes peeled for those cardinals, Aunt Joyce!); her two granddogs: Smitty Johll and Ozzy Feyen; and many godchildren, nieces and nephews, and friends.
Awaiting her in Heaven are her parents, Raymond and Hildegard (Trenkamp) Vorwald, her sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Dick Galligan, and many beloved pets including Jack and Zeus, Max, Ripley Sue, Sneaker, Morris, Spencer, and Blackie.
Now that she is in Heaven, we hope that she has solved the elusive mystery of 'what kind of bird is Toucan Sam?'
Special thanks to Dr. Bhutiani and his team, Good Shepherd Hospice, Home Instead caregivers...all for making sure Mom was comfortable and peaceful and loved.
Per her desire, there will be no public services. In lieu of flowers, she asks that you enjoy time with your loved ones while you can!
