Tom was a great friend and a mentor to the muscle car hobby. He was a fixture at the Pure Stock Drags and will always be remembered as our spokesman

Tom was a great friend and had a heart of gold, gifted and talented in music and a great writer, photographer and most of all a true friend. I just now learned of his passing and my deepest sympathy to his children and grand children.

Tom's wit and knowledge will be severely missed by readers of Muscle Car magazines and all of us at the PSMCDR events. Godspeed TOM.

I will miss the long conversations we had on the phone and at the track about the cars. I have never met a person who loved muscle cars as much as Tom. He was a great guy and a great friend. I have been lucky to have met such a nice guy. The Pure Stock Drags will never be the same without Tom there. We have all lost a great friend.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Tom's family and friends. I have enjoyed his work for many years and it was always top notch. The pure stock drags and the muscle car community could not have asked for a better ambassador. Rest in peace my friend

I have seen Tom at the Pure Stock Drags for over ten years. Finally had the pleasure of talking with him and getting to know him about 3-4 years ago. We both share a common interest in music. He would ask me for an opinion on the gear he was using and get ideas about what to try next. Tom is a talented person who will be greatly missed.

Godspeed, Tom. Knowing you was a genuine pleasure.

Know that the whole Studebaker community -indeed, the whole collector-car hobby- mourns the loss of your good writing and kindnesses to us. You are truly missed.

Be looking down for a moment of silence as we remember you next year at The Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race.

All the best to your family on the loss of such a good man.

My wife Marcia and I worked with Tom back in the early 1990s at DPG. I always enjoyed arguing with Tom over the rules of English grammer versus regional dialects. I would write something for print, Tom would then translate it into his version of English. We would then send it to Marcia who would tell us we were both wrong and then combine the two versions into something that the readers would actually understand. Those were such fun times. God Speed Tom.

I meet Tom 20 years ago at the Pure Stock Drags. I was a fan of his writing before I met him and an even bigger fan after I met him and knew what a wonderful man he was. His positive attitude and gentle disposition will be greatly missed.

We lost a great friend and talent, sorry for your loss.

There was nothing better than kicking around an idea or trading knowledge with Tom. His passion for all things automotive was evident in everything he wrote.

November 29, 2016

Tom Shaw was a special person and I don't just mean as an automotive person, but as a great Father and also as a Friend.
As an X DPG'r, I had the true Honor of working with and getting to know Tom.
Tom never changed and was always the soft spoken, caring, gentle giant!
Regardless of talking cars or about his Kids or ambitions of becoming a 'known' singer / song writer, or seeing Tom's tall body, riding his little motorcyle down the road, Tom was always Tom and he usually had a smile or serious look on his face, while enjoying whatever he was doing at the moment.
I appreciated Tom and I'll miss him very much.
May God grant Tom's Family Peace and Inner strength during these tough times.

Gods Speed Tom, I'll miss you!

I had the pleasure of working with Tom for many years, first as a colleague at Dobbs Publishing, and later as an editor who very much looked forward to receiving Tom's work for our magazine. I encountered Tom at many muscle car events over the years, and each time it was like greeting an old friend. Tom was a good man and a talented writer with a sly sense of humor, and we'll all miss him terribly.

I met Tom due to our mutual love of cars. I became friends with him because he was a good man.

Great man, have know Tom and admired his work for years.. he will be missed.. There will be a large void in the automotive community.

November 29, 2016

Tom will be missed by many. He impressed the most when he set out to start his own magazine. I believed it would never happen. To my surprise, he really did it. He published one issue of his own magazine. Now that's what I call accomplishment and a man of his word. It goes to show us, anything you set out to do in this world can be accomplished. Just keep plugging along. He was amazing. Rita Shaw
