LYDIA LUCERO Obituary

LYDIA C. LUCERO LA SARA - Lydia C. Lucero was born in Raymondville, Texas on January 19, 1926 and went to be with the Lord on July 23, 2014 in McAllen, Texas at the age of 88. She was born to a large, pioneer family in the La Sara Community. Lydia graduated from Raymondville High School, and attended Pan American University. She was actively involved in the La Sara community and schools while she raised her five children. She was known for her delicious meals and pastries and was an innovative seamstress making her own patterns and clothed her family and friends with her creations. She was later a community organizer and worked with the Cameron-Willacy County CAP Agencies helping the less fortunate. She was also a Head start teacher in the La Sara and Hargill areas. Lydia was a hard worker and motivated her children to strive to earn their educations and adopt her work ethic. She lived her later years in the McAllen area. She is preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Beatriz Cantu; siblings, Manuel Cantu, Raul Cantu , Elosia Garza, and Maria Garcia. Survivors include her children, Filiberto Lucero, Jr., Larry Lucero (Kay), Leon Mark Lucero (Jessica), Elizabeth Lara (Leo), Norma L. Coppley (Larry); grandchildren, Aaron A. Lara, Lisa A. Lara-Flores, Dr. Monica L. Richardson, Michael Lucero, Bryan Hodae, Kinsey L. Flores, Luke Lucero, Darwin Lucero; great grandchildren, Jaryd A. Lara, Jordan A. Lara, Victoria Richardson, Brylee Hodae, Cambria Hodae, Hayleigh Hodae, Jordan Hodae; siblings, Juan Cantu, Adan Cantu, Eva C. Rios, and Eulalia C. Salazar. Visitation was held Friday, July 25, 2014 from 3:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. with a Memorial Service at 7:00 P.M. at Good Shepherd Funeral Home in Raymondville. Family and friends gathered at Noon on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the funeral home for a 12:30 P.M. departure to Lasara Cemetery where Lydia was laid to rest. A graveside service was conducted by Pastor Ron Smith. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the caring hands of Good Shepherd Sign the guest book at www.themonitor.com/obituaries
