Dear Garza Family,

As you know Mark an inspiration to many at VMware including me as we have been teammates for 5+ years. The passion Mark had was very special. We had great chemistry as peers and always had a divide and conquer approach in tackling the business. We welcomed him up here to NY with open arms not as just a peer,but truly as a friend. Mark was the one who persuaded me to take a chance at the opportunity presented to me professionally. I Thank him for the confidence boost he gave me to succeed as his peer in the field. Our team adopted Mark as not as just another employee, but truly as family. When he came up to NY we helped guide him along the way for a short time, but as an avid traveler it Mark was showing us places that some of us never embarked upon in our own backyard. Mark really knew how to live and you should be really proud of his milestones both personally and professionally. The webcast services earlier this evening had me thinking about Mark's smile and his thumbs up gestures. It was a very beautiful service in his honor. He may not be here physically, but his spirits and legacy always will. May he rest in peace and his life celebration be eternal.

I am going to miss Mark's hysterical life and witty attitude. I remember being stationed in the Air Force in San Antonio and driving up to Austin to party with Mark and his friends on some of the weekends. Most of my side of the family are die hard Aggies and I was an exception along with Mark's and his side of the family. We all rooted for the Longhorns! Also he had a love for music and guitars just like me. He also knew how to party at a safe and fun level. He also gave me some pointers on how to talk to and pick up beautiful women in Austin...lol. There is no denying he had a gift for making many friends. We had that good looking Garza blood in us and even though we are distant cousins, I felt like I was his little protege during those few times we hung out. We lost touch when I moved to California and Colorado. I became a Colorado Buffalo, but still held on to the memories of partying with all the die hard Longhorn fanatics in Austin with Mark at the center of it. You will truly be missed Mark! I am sure you are plucking away at the guitar up there. May your contagious smile and laugh have the angels and past family members welcome you to Heaven with open arms! I had the pleasure of knowing Mark for close to 10 years. He was always a great friend, and we had many good times together here in Austin. We somewhat lost touch once he moved from Austin to NY, but I was fortunate enough to see him while he was visiting back in May. We talked and hung out like we'd seen each other just yesterday. I'm Ellie's sister, Lauren. The news of Mark has deeply saddened all of us in the family. We're so glad we were able to get to know and spend some time with the person that was such a big part of Ellie's life.

The first time we met him was Christmas dinner almost 5 years ago. He came down to San Antonio with Ellie, and unfortunately for Mark, we didn't have the Cowboys game on TV. He was so much fun and so involved in the festivities, but then after several hours no one knew where he had gone. Ellie found him in his car listening to the last minutes of the game! What a good laugh we had! We later learned how much it meant for Mark to miss a Cowboys game like that and how sweet it was that he had spent that time with us without saying a word about it. So gracious.

He bought our little Maya her first UT outfit - pink with ruffles and all! So thoughtful. Now we get to pass it on to her little sister, Lena. I wish she could've had the chance to meet him, too.

We extend our most heartfelt condolences to the wonderful Garza family we have heard so much about and pray you find the strength to cope. Mark will be deeply missed.

This was my first cousin's son. Marin, a long time physician in Edinburg, himself was very young when his mother (my father's sister) died suddenly. Gone to soon and so full of life. My condolences to the family that is, no doubt, feeling numb at this time. My fondest memory is of playing Spades with the crew in the "dungeon" at the Capitol of Texas. Marks laugh is ingrained in all of us from that era. Rest in Peace my friend.
