Naif Carlos Mohamed M.D.

Naif Mohamed Obituary

NAIF CARLOS MOHAMED,MD
On Monday December 1st, Naif Carlos Mohamed, MD entered into eternal rest surrounded by his family. Dr. Mohamed was born on January 10, 1948 in Monterrey, Mexico to Margarita Hamsho and Nasser Mohamed. Dr. Mohamed was an amazing son, father, husband, friend and an extraordinary physician. Dr. Mohamed met his devoted wife Maria Teresa when they were teenagers and they have been married for over thirty-five years. After marrying, they moved to Baltimore and started their new life together where they both worked at the University of Maryland Hospital. After finishing his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology he completed a Fellowship in Gynecological Oncology. In 1978, Dr. and Mrs. Mohamed returned to Mexico to start his medical practice. In 1984, they moved to McAllen to provide their young family with better opportunities.
His great loves were his family, golfing, and his patients. He was very proud of his children, Samira a doctor; Carlos a dentist; Suleima a lawyer; and Yusef, a biology major who plans on attending medical school. Dr. Mohamed's greatest legacy for his children is the importance of family unity and using your talents and knowledge to help others.
Losing his father at a young age, Dr. Mohamed worked very hard to make him proud by attending medical school and specializing in Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Oncology in the United States. Throughout his thirty year career and as a founding partner of Renaissance Women's Healthcare, Dr. Mohamed brought over 10,000 babies into this world. He set a wonderful example for his family in his love of his work: helping women deliver babies and caring for his cancer patients in a kind and compassionate way.
Dr. Mohamed's humor was one of a kind; his witty remarks will always be remembered and his jokes will be told for years to come. Generous to a fault, Dr. Mohamed took patients' calls at any hour and was willing to do any favor for his friends. His charm, handsome smile, and personality made him the person that we all wanted to be around. He was a gentleman in every sense of the word.
He was preceded in death by his father, Nasser Mohamed D., and his brother Jacobo Mohamed. He is survived by his loving wife; Maria Teresa; his four children; Samira (Stathis Kesaris), Carlos (Paulina), Suleima, and Yusef; his mother, Margarita Hamscho, his brothers, Cazim, Nasser, Fernando, Jesus, Jose; and his sisters; Fatima and Mizada.
Dr. Mohamed expressed his desire that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network to find a cure for such a devastating disease. Help keep his memory alive at:http://www.firstgiving.com/carlosmohamedMD.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today, Dec. 3, 2008, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in McAllen. Burial will Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission.
The Mohamed Family would like to thank all of our family and friends for their prayers and support. Also, many thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff who went above and beyond in providing care.

My Condolences to Your Family. Dr. Mohammed was a GREAT doctor. A Few of my family memebers also had him as their physician and they agree. Dr. Mohammed was my primary doctor, and although he was unavailable for my daughters delivery, there was no other doctor that i trusted more. He was caring and gentle, always made me feel very comfortable and at ease with him. When I couldn't see him on my visists, it was disappointing. He will be greatly missed!!

Dearest Doctor Mohamed,

I cannot believe your death. I don't live in the valley anylonger and my mother mentioned your death to me last week. I was very upset because she had not notified me earlier. She told me that she found out about it months later from a friend.

I came to visit you when you first opened your practice on Freddy Gonzales street, I believe, and you had your small office back in 1985. I was a scared teenager just out of high school and you were like a father to me.

Since then, I have always wanted my doctors to be like you.

You were not able to deliver my first daughter back in 1987 because you were out of town. But in 1998 you delivered my Margaret. I was already 31 and not in good shape. I remember when you were waiting there, the nurse told you about some other patient and you told her you were going to stay with Mary. The delivery was terribly difficult but you were my angel.

Six years later, I recommended to my mother that you take care of her surgery. She believed in my judgment and she has had a great life due to your surgical expertise.

I cried for several days when I found out you were gone. I will miss you dearly. I will always cherish your advice to me, "A woman's body is a temple."

God Bless you Doctor.

may the Lord bring you the comfort in these times of grief. Dr. mohammed saved my son and my life. early in the pregnancy he saw the signals of preclampse , so he gave me specific orders , a diet, and met with me regularly until the birth of my child. which they were able to control immediatley this condition. for my other three children, even though i was out of state, i would travel just to have him deliver my babies.. he is and will always be part of my family.. Rest in peace Dr. Mohammed and soon we will all be reunited in heaven.

But through your hurt, I find family, the family I have always wanted to meet. Please contact me at [email protected] or 310 Alderete Lane, Del Rio, Texas 78840 (830) 422-2535. It saddened me greatly to hear of Dr. Mohamed's passing. He wasn't my primary doctor, but my husband and I met with him a few times throughout my pregnancy last year. He was so sweet (despite getting after me for indulging a little too much on pizza & burgers lol) and very caring. My thoughts are with his family & loved ones. May he rest in peace.

Dr. Mohamed, I will miss you. I convinced you not to do a sonogram before my delivery--that was back in the days when they were not totally routine. You were out of town over Thanksgiving when I delivered (by your associate, Dr. Gruener), and you were very surprised on your return when you found out that we had two girls instead of one big boy!

My husband and I and our 2 girls, 21 years old now, send our condolences to your family.

I just heard that Dr. Mohamed had passed away and I am in great shock. I was refered to him by one of his colleagues Dr. Pedro Perez from Monterrey NL, this was 22 years ago. He delivered all of my 4 children and he also delivered my grandaughter. I met Dr. Kessaris about 2 months ago and immediately thought she was just like her father. I also know his son Carlos he is my youngest kid's dentist and is a wonderful person. I will never forget such a caring person. He would always joke around and make you comfortable even if he had bad news for you. Last year I had the pleasure of meeting his brother Jesus in Monterrey and I thought wow, what a great family of Dr's their parents and family are very blessed. I was very blessed to be his patient. I will never ever forget him. Dr Mohamed and his family will be in my prayers forever. Descansa En Paz Dr. Siempre te recordaremos.

I am very sad! I was planning on visiting Dr Mohamed when I went to see my surgeon that is in the same bldg. but I had been too sick to go. Dr Mohamed Delivered my stillborn baby Klarissa Denay Garcia & he was so loving & gentle with me throught the whole ordeal! when he walked into the room to tell me my baby had died (2 days before her due date) he started by saying..."Mija, sometimes the Lord needs more Angels in heaven & your baby..." I felt his loving words of comfort & forever be grateul for his gratitude, I'm sorry I never made it to let him know that I now have a beautiful 13 year old daughter, Klarissa would have been 20 yrs old Jan. 20th 10 days after his birthday! I am so sorry to hear of your loss. The thoughts of many are with you at this time of sorrow. Dr Mohamed delivered two of three of my babies and I will truly miss him. He was a GREAT Man and an AWESOME Doctor. I will always remember when he ran into the delivery room on September 16th of 2003 (Sept 16th-Independance Day for Mexico) with "mexican gritos"! Boy did that distract me from delivery pains....all I could do was laugh.
Dr Mohamed also delivered my first born on March 30, 1989. I will miss you Dr. Mohamed......you were the best.
To the Family~you will always be in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless.

To the Mohamed family, like you've heard already, Dr. Mohamed was a great doctor. I was his patient and colleague. He brought my 2 wonderful boys into this world. I remember when I first found out I was pregnant I told him I wanted him to be the one to deliver my sons even if he was not on call. Well that day came he was not on call and he still came to deliver them. He was an extraordinary man. A beautiful smile with a lot of charm and charisma. He was always very professional and caring. I would like to think I was the only one he treated was so much attention but after reading these entries I realize he was like that with everyone. He was a very special man. I was blessed to have a wonderful doctor. In Sept. I had the priviledge of meeting Dr. Kesaris in the abscence of Dr. Mohamed in his clinic. Like all of his patients, we only want to be seen by him. Well this young lady enters the room with the same smile, charm and charisma as her father. It was not hard to like her. You are in my prayers and Dr. Mohamed will always be in my memories .

I am very sorry that I was not able to attend his rosary or funeral service like he attended my fathers because of school. He is gone but not forgotten. He will be truly missed by friends, family, and loved ones. I know he is in a better place with my father now looking down. He is just one more angel in the sky! May he Rest In Peace!!!!

To: Dr. Mohamed's family
I am saddened to know that he is no longer with you. He was my doctor since, the early 80's and no other doctor like him. He had a heart for his patients and cultivated so much love for his career as a doctor.
You are in my prayers may the Lord give you comfort he is the only reason we live. If we could all share something of your loved one we would never have an end to all his stories and humorous talk. He was a wonderful gentleman and very much respected. May the Lord continue to give you comfort and bless you in your careers as your father was a perfect example of his love.

Our deepest sympathies to the Mohamed family. Dr. Mohamed was an extraordinary man. He had a heart of gold. He operated on my sister (with special needs) a couple of years ago. He was amazing with her, she had been told she needed for a tumor to be removed, but she was very scared. He captivated her heart and was able to convince her about the life saving surgery she needed. Her heart aches since she found out of his passing. Again our deepest sympathies from the Canales Family, Roma Texas.

To the Mohamed Family,
Simply put, one of the most dynamic physicians. He will be truly missed. We are deeply sympathetic for the loss of Dr. Mohamed. He brought my two babies into this world, the last one just this past February. A 10 pd. healthy baby boy. He was just sooo wonderful, comforting and reassuring in every way. A true angel that with even just his smile, could make his patients feel that all was going to be fine and of course we were, being in his care! We were blessed to have known him . Our Prayers are with your family at this time and may the Lord continue to comfort you.

To the Mohamed Family,
My deepest sympathy for all of the Mohamed Family. Dr. Mohamed was my doctor for many years and saw me through my two pregnancies but I got to know him a little more just recently. He delivered my second son Matthew Jacob Garza on April 14, 2008. He always made me feel real comfortable and even though I was a High Risk, he always found the words to calm me down. I will never forget that huge smile and the humor he had. His staff (Letty) was wonderful as well. He will be missed. Again, my deepest sympathy for all the Mohamed family and to his partners and staff. God Bless all of you!

Words cannot express the sorrow I feel for your family. Dr. Mohamed was (in my opinion) the best doctor. His bed side mannor was unique. He had the right answers for those of us that were first time moms, the answers that always made us feel at ease. I will always remember Dr. Mohamed the day he delivered my second child. He came in wearing a dark green suit, very calm, holding my hand, and assuring me that everything was going to be alright. What a wonderful man.

Dear God, When you "loaned" Carlos Mohamed to us, you "done good"! The good doctor took care of me for over 20 years. He got my daughter through cancer. He got my grand-daughter through "female problems" when she became a young lady. I loved to tease him that he was officially "Physician to the Generations"! He loved that. My condolences to his family. He will be missed by so many. No other like him. Thank you, God, for loaning him to all of us. We were truly blessed. And now we are blessed with his daughter, Dr. Samira.

Dear Tere and Mohamed Family,
I was so sorry to hear about your loss. I have been a patient of Dr. Mohamed for the last 15 years. When I first moved to McAllen in 1986, I didn't have an ob-gyn and my cousin Dr. Jorge Villarreal from Monterrey, Mexico recommended one of his colleagues. That was Dr. Mohamed. He was such an awesome Doctor to me and he always greeted me with that infectious smile which lit up the room. He was always asking me for my cousin....and I would keep him informed on his activities.
Dr. Mohamed was a great person and always had something positive to say to me. I remember how tense I was when I went to see him for the very first time, but he made me feel at ease right away.
He talked about his kids always. I would ask him about them and he would always tell me: "They never miss a meal and they are always there to eat." That was his way of telling me, they were fine.
My sincere condolences to his family, I will miss him greatly. God bless you and grant you the peace within knowing that you shared with us a very great man. God love you.

My condolences go to Dr. Mohamed's family. I was so shocked and in tears to hear about his death. He was my doctor for 10 years and I will dearly miss him. He was a very dedicated man to his profession and patients. He always had a great sense of humor that radiated through his office making everyone feel at home. Dr. Mohamed was there for me at the hospital before and right after surgery. He helped me so much by keeping me calm throughout the time at the hospital. There will never be any other doctor to replace Dr. Mohamed. Few doctors are as dedicated like he was. I will never forget how exceptional he was. My prayers go to Dr. Mohamed's family.
With Love,

He became my moms, sister and my MD in the following yrs. He also delivered my daughter. We are grateful for having him as our MD for many yrs. Thank You and God Bless You.

My wife started working with DR. Mohamed on August 2004. She loved him very much, she misses him dearly. Her name is Letty Ruiz. I remember at first she would get home every day complaining that he was very strict . I told her to change jobs if she did not like it,but she stayed by his side. After a while she got used to him. She was very honored to be by his side so many years. He was and is still loved by many. He will be missed.

My sincerest condolences to the Mohamed Family, I new this man for twenty-three years he brought both of my children into this world. I still remember the very first thing he told me when I was pregnant with my son, “Aye Almita, your gaining so much weight, remember it’s not the baby gaining weight its you”. This is the way many people knew him a man with a great personality, and wonderful sense of humor. My daughter and I were very grateful to have been his patients and I will hold a special place in my heart for him. Thank You, for everything Dr. Mohamed!!!!

Thank You,

Dear Mohamed family,
Dr. Mohamed was a wonderful man and a tremendous doctor. I know you've heard that a thousand times. He delivered my two children; Carl 17 and Catherine 9. After delivering Carl, Dr. Mohamed said as he was holding my newborn, "This is why I became a doctor."
I had read about his retirement and immediately felt guilty for not making my yearly appointment. I just knew he would have had a kind but meaningful lecture to give me.
Although nothing that is said or done can really take away the pain of losing a loved one, I hope your family can find solace in knowing how many lives he touched, helped, and saved.
May God bless your family as Dr. Mohamed did mine.
With my deepest sympathy,

Marina Garza

My deepest condolences to the Mohamed Family.
Dr. Mohamed helped me deliver three of my four children and would have delivered the fourth had she not decided to come three weeks early when we lived four hours away from the Valley. He also took care of three of my sisters and my beautiful mother along with my sisters-in-law and countless friends.
I am sure most of his OB patients remember how he used our "bellies" as his desk when he could not find a stable space to put down our chart to record information. I have the fondest memories of him and always will. I retrace with my children their delivery hour and always include Mohamed's comments as they were born. God chose to give Gus and me three beautiful daughters first and gave us our son last. Mohamed was as ecstatic as Gus when our son was born. His tenderness at telling my husband to follow our son where the nurse was checking him and not to worry about me because he would take care of me was touching and never forgotten.
Descansa en paz Mohamed que en este mundo nunca seras olvidado.

My most sincerest condolences. Dr. Mohamedmd was not my physician but I got to see him the times my physician was not available. I remember him because of the way he was and how he had a way to make you understand and see things. I was pregnant with my first baby and i was freaking out about my baby being "being underweight"( i am a pettite woman). I thought he was so funny when he told me " With all due respect: a chiguagua puppy can't give birth to a rotweiller". He was just so funny...I had so many misconceptions about the whole pregnancy and he was so patient and funny about it all. I will always remember him that way.

Dr Mohamed was a wonderful doctor. 10 years ago he delivered my son and I can still remember him joking and asking if he would see me again the following year with another one. Well sure enough the following year pregnant with my daughter he walks into the exam room and says "I told you, you' d be back". I will never forget that. He delivered my daughter in Feb 2000. Here I am again pregnant with number 3 and its so sad for me to know he will not be there to deliver my newest addition. Dr Carlos Mohamed will be greatly missed and walking into the Renaissance Womens Center will never feel the same.

Dear Mohamed Family,
The Garza family expresses its deepest condolences on the loss of a most special Dr. who delivered our baby daughter Carina 22 years ago at the old Edinburg hospital. She was the second baby born after the reopening of the maternity ward. We still remember his funny comment as he came in to do the very speedy delivery. He was a unique obstetrician and gynecologist who always seemed to care about every aspect of his patients' lives. May the family receive comfort knowing that he will never be forgotten. Our prayers are with you.

Dear Mohamed Family,

I was very saddened to hear about the passing of Dr. Mohamed. He was my favorite doctor. He saw me through my first pregnancy 27 years ago in 1981. I had to move to Germany during my 6th month. I came back to the valley and in 1985 he delivered another son and in 1990 he delivered my baby girl who is now 18 years old.

He had helped me give life to 3 wonderful children:

Jamaar Taylor - Former NFL
New York Giant

Earvin Taylor - Former Texas A & M
Aggie Football Player

Brandi Taylor - Current Texas A & M
Student

Thank you so much Dr. Mohamed. I will never forget your kindness and your jokes.

May you rest in peace.

Your family will remain in our prayers.

God bless you.
