David McGrath Obituary

McGRATH, DAVID JOSEPH, age 69, of Lake Isabella, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at his home. Cremation has taken place at Daisy Hill Crematory. A Celebration of Dave’s life will be held in Fall of 2022. Memorial contributions may be made to MyMichigan Hospice (4000 Wellness Drive Midland, MI 48670) or Chippewa Watershed Conservancy (306 S University Ave, Mt Pleasant, MI 48858). Envelopes will also be available at Clark Family Funeral Chapel. Dave was born May 28, 1953, in Detroit, the son of Edward and Elizabeth (Miller) McGrath. He was a graduate of Carson City High School with the class of 1971. He was very supportive of his local community serving as chairman of Lake Isabella Planning Commission, active with Central Michigan Association of Realtors, serving at the local, state, and national level. In the past, Dave instructed motorcycle safety classes in Lansing. In Dave’s career, he mainly worked in sales. His latest positions were held at I Ride and Coldwell Banker/Mt. Pleasant Realty. Dave will be fondly remembered for his loyalty, lifelong friendships, and thoughtfulness. His kindness and generosity showed by doing the little things and making others feel special. He was a role model to many; Dave always showed utmost respect of others as they did him. Dave had been an avid snow skier over the years at Nubs Nob, Harbor Springs and at Colorado Rockies ski resorts specifically Keystone Resort where he also worked for many years. He loved walks on the beach, especially walking the pier in Ludington watching the sunset. His true happiness was found in the outdoors. It fed his soul, and his soul fed the outdoors. He loved photography, especially sunsets, mountains, and water. Dave loved the outdoors, whether it be rock collecting while hiking and walking the beach, riding his motorcycle, or bird watching. Dave is survived by his wife and partner in life of many years, Dawn Duffield; brother Robert McGrath (Diane) of Greenville, SC; sister Lynne Ratliff (John) of Traveler’s Rest, SC; nieces and nephew Kelly, Lisa, and Scott of St. Louis, Missouri; cousins Mike Miller (Phyllis) of Houston, TX, Barbara Leonard (John) of Mt. Pleasant and Crystal; parents-in-law Dick and Donna Duffield of McKinney, TX; brother-in-law Brent Duffield (Kay) of McKinney, TX; nephew Brock of Portland, OR and niece Kristen Duffield of McKinney, TX. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Betty McGrath; grandmother Blanche Miller; and aunt and uncle Bob and Myrtie May Miller. My sincere condolences to Dawn, Bob, and Lynne and the entire McGrath family. Those first friends of elementary are forever etched in our memory. Remembering Ed and Betty and "Uncle" Bob and Mertie May also. Our dads both worked on Main street. Ed the postman and Fred the barber. Rembering riding bicycles with my brother Al and running into David and Lynne riding up town. That hill by the bank was tough but the consolation was on the other side you got to go down the big hill. There have been many challenges since that day for us all. May the God of all comfort envelope you in His love and care give strength and peace now and always.

Bob & Lynne, I was so sorry to hear the news of David's passing. We just had a 51st TriUnion in Carson City and I was asking people if they knew where Dave was and if anyone had heard from him. I used to come over and stay at your house when Dave and I were around 12 years old. Last time I saw him he had a long pony tail! I had good memories when we were younger and feel bad that we lost touch. My sister Dianne was in your class Bob and my brother Bill I think was in your class Lynne. My sincere sympathy to you both.
