Linda Updike Obituary

Linda Carol Updike

FREMONT: Linda Carol Updike, 58, died Friday afternoon, July 8, 2011 at her rural Fremont home. Born on November 26, 1952 in Williamson, West Virginia, she was a daughter to the now deceased Earlin and Priscilla (Estep) Daugherty.

Linda attended Ross High School and worked as a homemaker and part time as a food preparer for the Kmart eatery and as a janitor for Vanguard Vocational Center.

Linda loved life and shared it with her husband, Timothy Updike, whom she married in Fremont on June 5, 1970. He survives her. Together they enjoyed playing poker, especially Texas Hold'em. She was affectionately known as "The Queen Of Hearts" by her poker club. They also travelled. They visited Las Vegas over 30 times as well as many other destinations. Linda bowled in leagues for 30 years, collected angels and spent hours in her rose garden and working with the flowers.

Also surviving her are children, Shawn T. (Rachel) Updike and Dawn M. Updike; seven grandchildren; and siblings, Donald (Judy) Daugherty and Andy (Carol) Sloan all of Fremont. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Barbara J. Hineline.

Visitation will be held at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Fremont on Monday, July 11, from 6-9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9-10:30 a.m. Funeral services will begin Tuesday 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Elder Dennis Bork will officiate. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde. Contributions in Linda's memory may be made to Hospice of Memorial Hospital.
