Samuel Lowery Obituary



Samuel R. Lowery, MD

ERIE, PA: Samuel R. Lowery, MD, age 94, of Erie, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at Fairview Manor, Fairview, PA.

He was born in Boynton, PA on August 30, 1920, a son of the late Frank and Eva (Pyle) Lowery.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII, where he participated in the D Day Invasion of Omaha Beach, Normandy, France on June 6, 1944 receiving a Service Medal with Four Bronze Stars.

He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh Medical School Class of 1956. Dr. Lowery was in general practice and an anesthesiologist in Fremont, Ohio.

He was a member of the American Medical Association, and had been the Sandusky County Ohio Coroner for 24 years.

Besides his parents, Dr. Lowery was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Leroy and Kenneth Lowery; and an infant great grandson, Jack Ryan Lowery.

Survivors include three sons, William Lowery, of Erie, PA, with whom he made his home, Clint Lowery, and his wife, Deborah, of Coraopolis, PA, and Jeff Lowery, and his wife Dee, of Fairlawn, OH; two daughters, Bonnie Lowery, of Georgetown, TX, and Samantha James, and her husband Manus, of Florida; and a sister, Edith Kramer, of Findlay, OH. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A committal service with full military rites will be held at a later date at Maple Grove Cemetery, Findlay, OH.

Memorials may be made to the "Jack Ryan Lowery Charitable Fund", c/o The Pittsburgh Foundation, 5 PPG Place, Suite 250 Pittsburgh, Pa 15222 or the Wounded Warriors Project, 301 Grant St. Pittsburgh, Pa. 15219.
