John McClendon Obituary

John William "Billy" McClendon, Sr.

West Monroe - The life of John William "Billy" McClendon, Sr., 89 years old, a lifelong resident of West Monroe, Louisiana, will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church in West Monroe, Louisiana, with Rev. John Tellifero officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.

Billy McClendon was born on March 16, 1929, in Monroe, LA, to (and preceded in death by) Henry B. McClendon and Elnora Perkins McClendon. He died peacefully on Saturday, May 12, 2018, after a well-lived life with his devoted and loving wife of 67 years, Patricia Whaley McClendon. Together Billy and Pat enjoyed entertaining and serving their family, friends, church and community in ways and means far too numerous to mention. He served in the US Navy prior to enjoying a long career of accounting and warehouse management for both the Federal Compress & Warehouse and Monroe Warehouse Company. He loved gardening and landscaping, singing in the choir at church, and was an avid reader and lover of history, particularly military history. Billy was a devoted New Orleans Saints and LSU football fan and loved more than anything to watch a good ballgame.

Above all else, he was a family man and always said his greatest blessings were his beloved Pat and their four children: Lynn Rodgers and husband Don, Libby Goodwin and husband Dennis, Lori Andrews and husband Keith, John W. McClendon Jr and wife Denise; their grandchildren: Mary Lea Stinson Dunn and husband Greg, Casey McClendon, Matt Greer and wife Jessica, Tom Greer and wife Cara, Adam Goodwin and wife Kayla, Trey McClendon and wife Bethany, Sara Goodwin, Anna Goodwin Wolcott and husband Wolly, and Jordon McClendon; great grandchildren: Madison, Garrett and Grant Dunn; Malia Goodwin, Rachel, Aubrey and Ella Kate Greer, Chloe and MJ Freeman and Lex McClendon, Charlie Beth and Chandler McClendon and bonus grandchildren Donald Rodgers and wife April, Russ Rodgers and wife Connie, Dawn Reed and husband Stacy, Dwayne Andrews and wife Sara, Amie Martin and husband Anthony and Arica Patton and husband Chris; and bonus great grandchildren Jaci McKinney, Chase Rodgers, Annaleah Rodgers, Hannah Reed, Hudson Reed, Madison Hizer, Victoria Dunn Nappier, Kayden Smith, Sarah Elizabeth Andrews, Case and Cale Martin, and Haley, Collin and Riley McCann. He is also survived by his sister Loraine McClendon DeLoach and husband Herman and numerous nieces and nephews. There are many close friends who were like family to him during his life especially the Lovizas, the Holsteads, the Branches, the entire Rodgers clan of Arkansas, and wonderful neighbors - the McMahans and the Sanders.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Matt Greer, Tom Greer, Trey McClendon, Adam Goodwin, Greg Dunn and Jordon McClendon.

The family also wants to thank the Ed Stinson Sunday School class that Billy was a member of since the 1950's.

The family asks that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of West Monroe.
