Ahh, Miss Pritzlaff... this anniversary makes me sad that I wasn't able to find you before you passed. I missed the chance to thank you for the love, kindness, and care you took to see that I survived all those years ago. I carry your memory with me every day and hope you're able to look down and see the work I am doing now, and that it makes you proud. I couldn't do this without the many lessons you taught me. My life is better and brighter because you were a part of it. You will never be forgotten! I still miss you!

Miss Pritzlaff was my 5th grade teacher at Hawthorne School in South Milwaukee. Of all my teachers there, she was my favorite. She was an inspiration. I am so glad that my classmate Tina Konn and I were able to have lunch with her and thank her in person in 2011. She delighted that in her retirement she would run into so many former students - they were her children.

I am saddened to hear of Shirley's passing. Shirley Pritzlaff was my 4th grade teacher at Blakewood Elementary back in 1978. She was one of my all time favorite teachers and a huge inspiration. I have thought of her often over all these yrs and remembered many of the lessons she taught me and passed them down to my own children.
I searched for her online a few times over the yrs, wishing to look her up to thank her for the light and lessons she brought to my life and the encouragement to follow my dreams no matter what obstacles were put in my way. I am now a history teacher at living history events every yr and all those yrs ago she played a huge role in how I ended up where I am now. I still tap maple trees just as she taught me and I think of her every time.
My condolences to her family and friends for your loss. She was special. She will always be remembered with love and respect.
From her former student...
