Dawn Marshall Obituary
Dawn Alice Marshall Dawn Marshall passed away peacefully on November 27th , 2018 in Olympia, Washington. Dawn was born to Jack and Grace Hagan on March 18, 1927 in Everett and spent her growing up years in Arlington, WA. Being an only child, she spent time with her older relatives and learned her polished manners and grace at a young age. Her Aunt Winifred and Uncle Edward did not have children, so they loved to take Dawn on trips and adventures. Dawn graduated from Arlington High School in 1945 as the class valedictorian. In 1948, Dawn earned her BA in Music from Washington State College and graduated Phi Beta Kappa. Dawn was very active in her sorority, Pi Beta Phi, and remained involved years after her graduation, writing letters of recommendation for local girls and supporting the national organization. Dawn's most important accomplishment at WSU was meeting her husband, Bob, in the famed Cougar Cottage (The Coug). Bob and Dawn were married in 1949 and celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in June 2018. Dawn was a very supportive wife who took care of the home and children while Bob worked on his advanced degrees and career in public education, moving around the state until settling in Olympia. Bob and Dawn enjoyed traveling, playing tennis and Bridge and all the social events with their wonderful neighborhood friends from Yelm, Holiday Hills and Indian Summer. Dawn always looked forward to the "snow bird" trips with Bob to Phoenix where they could take in the Mariner spring games and play tennis in the sunshine. Dawn was inspired by the desert and Southwest artists and loved to paint and decorate with a Southwest Flair. Dawn volunteered with many organizations throughout her life including PTSA, PEO, Children's Hospital Guild and The United Methodist Church. Dawn was active in planning and participating in community events such as the elaborate musical productions of The Happening. Dawn spent many years teaching piano to hundreds of students. She played the piano up until her last days and many friends and family were fortunate to hear her play and sing Christmas Carols and her favorite; "I Love You For Sentimental Reasons". Dawn was a huge sports fan and would always have "the ballgame" on TV; no matter what season it was, she could find a tennis match somewhere in the world. She and Bob loved to travel to tennis tournaments, with Wimbledon as a favorite. Dawn was a loyal WSU fan and the trip to the Rose Bowl in 1997 to watch the Cougars play was a highlight. Dawn treasured the time spent with her family and spoiling her grandchildren. She loved keeping photo albums and scrapbooks for each of the children. She is survived by her loving husband Bob, her children Nancy and Rob (Sandy) and five grandchildren; Austin, Jennifer, Collin, Matthew and Marshall. Dawn had many friends and relatives who all were lucky to know such a special and graceful lady. The family wishes to thank Providence Hospice for their support and requests any remembrances be to them in honor of Dawn.
