Elizabeth Stackhouse Obituary

Elizabeth Jane Stackhouse (Liz) Elizabeth Jane Stackhouse (Liz) was born on June 9, 1936 to Ruth (Larkee) and John Stackhouse. She was raised in Olympia, and graduated from Olympia High School. She graduated from Washington State University and pursued a career in education as a high school teacher of English. After graduation, she accepted a position in the Bay Area because she was intrigued with a fellow Cougar that she had met on a blind date. At the time, Bruno Pierini Jr. was stationed at Fort Ord, CA. They married on December 27, 1959. Fairness mattered to Liz; she believed one must be part of a participatory democracy. She worked in the community for multiple organizations to include the Library Board, her Unitarian fellowship, the Democratic Party and later, the League of Women Voters, including serving as state president of the League. As a worker, she was a legal assistant, a law firm marketer, and a local government strategist. In her private life, Liz would take up subjects as they caught her attention; examples include the jazz piano of "Fatha" Hines, thoroughbred horse racing, & Jane Austen. She loved being outdoors hiking or cross country skiing with the season. Liz also was delighted with the arrival of her grandson Joseph. Liz will be known for her fight, and for her kindness. She died on March 16, 2017 after a determined battle with Alzheimer's disease. She is survived by her husband Bruno, her three children Susan, Katherine (Katey), and Marcus, her sister Marjorie (Stackhouse) McNae of Oak Harbor. A Memorial Service will be held on April 22nd at 11 am at the Westside Unitarian Congregation, 7141 California Ave SW Seattle WA 98136. Remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Southern Poverty Law Center, and the League of Women Voters.
