COLUMBIA CITY - Clarence Edwin "Tom" Thompson, 92, of Columbia City, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Life Care Center of LaGrange, with family by his side.
Born on Oct. 26, 1932, in Laud, Indiana, he was a son of the late Chester A. and LouEtta (Hinkson) Thompson.
Clarence grew up in the village of Laud in Whitley County, and has lived in this area his whole life. He graduated from Jefferson Center High School, Class of 1950.
On Nov. 14, 1953, he married Deloris J. Chaney at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne.
Clarence was a member of Laud Christian Church.
He served as a volunteer fire fighter for many years at the Laud Volunteer Fire Department.
Clarence retired from the Fort Wayne Dana Corporation after 31 years, where he was a member of the Dana Employees Athletic Association and UAW Local 903.
He proudly served as a member of the Indiana Air National Guard.
Family was a large part of Clarence's life. He enjoyed fishing and camping with the family and other family outings. He enjoyed going to Wisconsin, for a summer fishing trip for many years with family members. He enjoyed seeing and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Clarence is survived by his children, Connie Thompson, of LaValle, Wisconsin, Carl (Sandy) Thompson, of Columbia City, Indiana, Kevin (Susie) Thompson, of South Whitley, Indiana, Kenneth Thompson, of Wolcottville, Indiana, and Christina (John) Workman, of Columbia City, Indiana; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sister-in-law, Judy Thompson.
Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Deloris J. Thompson, on May 5, 2025; infant son, Gene Edwin Thompson; one great-great-grandchild; brothers, Robert, Arthur, Garland and Paul Thompson; and his parents.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with funeral services at 1 p.m., on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.
Burial will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne.
Memorial donations may be given in memory of Clarence, to Laud Christian Church.
