Daniel Hulet Obituary

Daniel Wallace "Boone" Hulet

Kanab

Daniel Wallace "Boone" Hulet ~ 1957-2015

Lover of nature, history and the political arena, our loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend Boone, passed away peacefully at home, on December 15, 2015, surrounded by his loving wife, Laurie and their three sons, Jeff, Caleb and Lucas. His tired body is free from the cancer that has ravaged him for the past eight months.

Boone was born in Kanab, Utah on Mother's Day - May 12, 1957 to Norma Lemmon and Carlyle Stevens Hulet. The sixth of eight children, he was the first of the Hulet children born in Kanab. He attended schools in Kanab, graduating from Kanab High School. Following high school, he enlisted in the US Navy serving as a submarine sonar technician. On a blind date, Boone was introduced to Laurie White; they fell in love at first sight and were married on June 25, 1988. He furthered his education, receiving a degree in Agricultural Enterprise Management from Southern Utah University. While attending SUU, Boone enjoyed his work as an assistant farm manager for the university farm.

In 1997, Boone and Laurie had the opportunity to move back to Kanab where he worked side by side with his father as independent distributors for Meadow Gold Dairy. Their employment afforded him many enjoyable experiences as he traveled from Bryce Canyon on one day to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon on another. He also made countless friends at the many stops in between. As his health declined, Boone loved including his son Caleb in his newly acquired business.

Not only did Boone love the red rocks of Southern Utah, he loved exploring with family and friends well known spots and hidden gems. He also loved politics, serving two terms as a county commissioner, a position he enjoyed and in which he was able to share his passion for public service. He was respected throughout the state by his fellow county commissioners. Boone was a voracious reader and could always be found with a book by his side, preferably non-fiction or historical novels; he was always ready to share what he had learned about Washington, Adams, Lincoln, Mormon migration, the Civil War, and let's throw in his love for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

Boone had a strong testimony and understanding of the gospel that enriched his life in so many ways. His great desire for a patriarchal blessing came to fruition the day before his passing. That same day he was finally able to receive a long desired temple recommend.

We are certain Boone was joyfully welcomed into the arms of his mother, Norma Hulet, and youngest sister, Debbi Hulet Williams. Boone said he was not afraid of dying; his only concern was leaving his family behind. He will be greatly missed by his wife Laurie White Hulet, his father Carlyle Hulet, his children Jeff Hulet and Bree Henry, Caleb and Amanda Hulet, and Lucas Hulet and Andreya Caruso; and his grandchildren Jaden, Braxton, Ryken, Elliot, Ayla and Lochlen. Boone will be remembered fondly by all whose lives he has touched. Boone and the family wish to express gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who mixed medicine with love and empathy during the many months of his illness. His "angel of mercy", Andrea, blessed each of our lives and made his passing so sweet.

His funeral will be Saturday, December 19, 2015, at 11:17 a.m. at the Kanab Utah Stake Center, 20 W. Center, Kanab, UT. A viewing will be held Friday, December 18, 2015 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the Stake Center and prior to the service from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Burial in the Kanab Cemetery under the direction of Mosdell Mortuary.

Only today did I learn of Dan's passing. He was a good student, leader, and solid contributor to the agriculture program while he attended SUU. Likewise, his hometown of Kanab had the good fortune of enjoying his sense of community upon his return. Dan's family will be in my thoughts in the difficult days ahead
