Joseph Barton Obituary

Joseph Adam Barton

St. George

Joseph Adam Barton, beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend passed away January 30, 2016, at his home with his wife and father at his side. Born January 6, 1976, in Salt Lake City, Joe graduated from West High School and served an LDS mission in the Sydney Australia North Mission.

Joe spent the bulk of his professional career as a corrections and police officer for both Salt Lake County and Washington City, Utah. He was awarded the Sheriff's Star during his time at Salt Lake County's Sheriff's office for exceptional performance of duty, and a Life Saving award during his time at Washington City. Recently, with the help of his sweet wife, he achieved his long-time dream of opening and running a restaurant.

Joe loved his people, was fiercely loyal and had an abiding faith in our Savior. He adored his nieces and nephews and was a favorite uncle. Joe had a kind, tender, and generous heart, often hidden under a gruff exterior, but well known to those who were blessed enough to be close to him. Joe also loved the outdoors, his dogs, all things orange, motorcycles, and teasing his family and friends. We will miss his brilliant dancing, his fruit fights, and his happy "Hay-ay."

He is survived by: his wife Darby Bishop Klungervik Barton; step-children Matthew Bishop and Ayla Klungervik; parents Dr. Douglas and Jayne Barton; siblings Matthew (Kimberly) Barton, Rebekah Barton, Joshua (Megan) Barton, Clinton (Mykel) Barton; and 11 nieces and nephews. Joe brightened and blessed our lives and will be sorely missed.

A viewing will be held Saturday February 6, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. in the LDS Chapel at 124 N. Valley View Dr., St. George, UT 84770, followed immediately at 12:00 p.m. with the funeral services. Interment will be in St. George at the Tontaquint Cemetery, 1777 S. Dixie Drive, St. George, Utah, and will be followed by lunch at the ward house.

Dear Barton family - how I wish I could be with you at this time. I believe I have some idea what you are going through, but I did have a year before Tym died so it was not a shock. I hope you know how much I love you - our families have always been close. I did not know Joe well, but I remember Becka speaking of him often.
Much love, Mary Helen Parsons

Joe - You're one of the best friends I've had the pleasure of knowing. Thank you for your loyalty, advise, genuine love, good natured criticism, humor, and memories.

I will always crack a smile when i reflect on memories of you slipping and falling while hiking with Ryan and I, doing the crane kick on my back yard wall, tasing yourself in the patrol room, riding in Robert's trunk, jumping into a hotel pool with your clothes on, and so on.

You were always there for me brother. I sit here staring at the computer screen trying to comprehend your absence. My prayers are with you and your family.

Sincerely your friend forever "hardcore".
