Lamar Sullivan

Kanab - Lamar Sullivan passed away peacefully at home February 15, 2021. Lamar was born September 21, 1936 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Three weeks after birth, he was adopted by Archibald and Maida Fuller Sullivan and began his life as Noel Lamar Sullivan. Lamar grew up in Leeds ,and graduated from Dixie High School. He joined the Navy and served on the US Essex Aircraft Carrier during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning home from the Navy he went to school at Dixie College and then at the University of Utah. While in college he met and married Karen Holyoak of Parowan and they began their family of four sons; John, Lonnie, David and Troy. Lamar and Karen were later divorced.

Lamar retired after 30 years working for the Utah Department of Transportation. His second career lasted 20 years with Creamer and Noble, as a project inspector. While working for Creamer and Noble he met the love of his life, Kanab High School teacher Carol Penny Sullivan. They enjoyed 33 years of marriage.

Lamar enjoyed motorcycling and he served as the Utah State Director for the Goldwing Road Riders Association and later the Region Director which covered 7 States. He and Carol spent many miles traveling on their Goldwing to rallies and events. The highlight for them was meeting both old and new friends.

Lamar's hobbies included gardening, coin collecting, and many hours spent in his wood shop working on his intricately designed wood carvings. Many people have enjoyed the beautiful gifts that he made.

He loved being with his family and attending all the family gatherings.

Lamar was preceded in death by his sons: Lonnie Sullivan, David Sullivan, and Troy Sullivan.

His survivors include wife Carol Penny Sullivan; son John (Julie) Sullivan; daughters-in-law Janice Sullivan Kellogg and Leila Sullivan; and 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren whom he adored.

Lamar was a good person. We met him sometime around 1996. He always had time to visit with you. He made us the Region F COY coordinators in 1997.
We will always have good memories of him

Lamar and I were friends from childhood days. I loved to go to Leeds to see him when we were kids. We were in the same class in school and enjoyed our close friendship together . My sympathy to all Lamar’s family. I know you will find comfort in remembering your great times with Lamar.
