Cameron Hicks Obituary

Cameron Travis Hicks

Muncie - Cameron Travis Hicks died peacefully at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital early in the morning of May 8th with his parents and sister Morgan by his side.

Cameron was born on February 22, 1983, to Ronald Edward and Robin Michelle Hines Hicks.  He graduated from Burris Laboratory School in 2001 and from Ball State University in 2008 with a major in history and minors in anthropology and geology.  He had completed the course work for a master's degree in historic preservation.

While attending the university, he worked at Pizza King.  He also enjoyed an internship in historic preservation with the Indiana Department of Transportation.  More recently, he had worked in Indianapolis.

One of Cameron's favorite things was climbing around the ruins of old castles in Ireland.  He was daring, curious, and always looked for adventure.  He tried to get behind the scenes wherever he went.  He had fond memories, despite the miserable weather, of working on the archaeological excavation at Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland in England.  He enjoyed learning about family history and helping his father maintain the farm home built by his great-grandparents in Kingman.

Cameron loved music, especially the Beatles.  He also loved animals, traveling, staying up late, spending time outside, and collecting antiques.  He was a talented artist and musician, playing the piano, organ, guitar, and drums.

His family will remember him for his kindness and generosity.  He was a loving and protective brother, reaching out also to those he felt needed a friend.  He was a hard worker and always concerned with trying to do the right thing, with little patience for those who didn't.

He is survived by his parents and sisters Morgan of Bloomington and Gwen of Indianapolis, sister-in-law Kathryn Neighbours, and brother Geoffrey (wife Audrey and son Henry) of Bloomington.  Also, surviving are his grandparents, John and Sonia Hines, of Muncie formerly of Anderson, an uncle, Michael Hines (wife Barbara), and cousins Katie and Kristen Hines.

Memorial donations may be made to Peyton Manning Children's Hospital of Indianapolis or Muncie ARF (Animal Rescue Fund).

Burial will be in a private service in Kingman, Indiana.
