Mildred Estabrook Obituary

Mildred C. Estabrook, 96

MUNCIE - With family at her side, Mildred C. Estabrook, 96, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Signature Health Care.

She was born on December 10, 1918 in Muncie, the daughter of Edward and Della (Gibson) Wiley.

Mildred graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1937 where she enjoyed being part of the marching band. She went to work for Ball Stores where she met George W. Estabrook. Mildred and George were married on August 24, 1940 at High Street United Methodist Church and shared life together for sixty years. Mildred focused on raising her family, and also spent time working at Ball State University.

Surviving are her four sons, Wiley K. (wife, Jennifer) Estabrook, Stephen E. (wife, Jane) Estabrook, David H. Estabrook and Greg R. (wife, Janice) Estabrook; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and nieces, Joyce, Janet and Jean.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sister, Helen Price; and brother-in-law, Earl Price.

Mildred's greatest joys were her family and her faith. She was generous with her time, most recently, serving at High Street Thursday Luncheon. Family reunions in Rocky Mountain National Park created special memories, and she received great joy from simple family gatherings at home. Mildred was encouraging and compassionate to all she met, and served as a loving matriarch to her family.

Friends and family may call from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2015 at High Street United Methodist Church, 219 S. High St., Muncie. A celebration of her life will follow with Rev. Charlotte Overmyer officiating. Burial will follow at Beech Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to High Street United Methodist Church, 219 S. High St., Muncie, IN 47305.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

When Mildred was in the First Presbyterian Church, we often met together in bible study. She was very faithful in her study of the faith that she lived. She was truly an inspiration to me

I tried calling recently to talk with her but was unable to make the contact. She showed my husband and me hospitality when we first joined the church; I will always remember her kind smile.

Estabrook Family, I'm sorry to read of your mother and loved one's passing. Mildred was a wonderful lady. I enjoyed being around her, at High St luncheons and especially at 55 Alive luncheons at Gethsemane Methodist Church. Prayers and sympathy. RIP Mildred
