Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Darlington Presbyterian Church. Private burial will follow at a later date.
Born in Darlington, SC, she was the daughter of the late Morrell L. Thomas, Jr. and Margaret Ann Cudd Thomas.
AB, as she was known to her friends, attended the University of Virginia in Charlottesville before going on to earn her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of South Carolina.
She was a creatively gifted graphic artist. In 1995, she co-founded the arts and entertainment magazine “Five O’Clock Friday,” of which she was publisher. She also succeeded her father as publisher of the “News and Press,” Darlington’s hometown newspaper, although in characteristically self-effacing fashion she never assumed the official title. She was recognized many times over by the South Carolina Press Association for her newspaper layout and design skills.
She was an active and enthusiastic member of the equestrian community, and a prize-winning rider with her champion show horses, Blitz and Tulip.
AB will be remembered for her sense of fun, her loving heart and her generous spirit. She was a living personification of the word “friendship,” and truly cared more for others than for herself. Her absence will leave a void in the lives of everyone who knew her.
Ann Boyd Thomas is survived by her mother, Margaret Ann Cudd Thomas of the home; her brother, Morrell L. Thomas III of North Myrtle Beach, SC; her niece, Tessa Ann Thomas, of North Myrtle Beach, SC; many loving and devoted friends; and her beloved pet Welsh Corgi, Sophie.
Those wishing to make memorials in lieu of flowers may send them to the Darlington County Humane Society.

Im reading this obit 10 years too late in 2018. Ann and I lost track of each other over the years. She meant the world to me when I was living in Florence one summer in our mid 20s lots of tennis and beach trips and late nights discussing life. Later that summer, we did a month long (life changing) trip to Europe together. I cant believe shes gone- it seems like yesterday. She was a joy to have as a friend.

I met Ann when she was a student a USC. She was witty, wise beyond her years, and a personality not easily forgotten.
She will be missed.

I was so sorry to hear about Ann Boyd's death. We knew each other from birth (our mothers were in the maternity ward at the same time) and through college. Although time and distance have intervened (I have lived in Boston for 20+ years), I have never forgotten her keen intelligence and very understated wit, as well as her sensitivity and kindness. She will be missed.

Dear Margaret, John and friends,
I have just heard of Ann's passing! I'm soo sorry! I recently met Ann on the phone and would have never have know she was sick. I was truly impressed with her living with this disease and not letting it hold her down. She did not stop living and that was the one thing I learned from Miss Ann when I met her at her lovely barn! She was very strong and I made a new horse friend that day! Caroline and I send our deepest regrets! I will continue to pray for your family as I did the day I left that barn.
My deepest condolences!

I am very shocked and saddened. Ann and I were friends in college, and I'll always remember her keen intellect and wonderful sense of humor and the absurd. What a special person; she will be missed greatly.

I'm shocked and extremely upset over the loss of Ann Thomas. It's unfortunate that I have not seen Ann for many years as I contributed a monthly article for Five O'Clock Friday. One thing that stands out in my mind most is the day that she donated a digital camera to the humane society. In the day that was HUGE! Ann was so giving with such a big heart when it came to animals. I will forever remember that although Ann could not emotionally visit the animal shelter-whatever was needed she always found a way to provide yet wanting zero recognition in return.
To the family of Ann Thomas I am truly sorry. I'll never forget her giving spirit.
