James Gregg Obituary

James Claussen "Boots" Gregg FLORENCE - James Claussen "Boots" Gregg, 88, of Florence, passed away at his residence Tuesday, January 14, 2014. Boots was born in Florence County, a son of the late William McCall and Irene Claussen Gregg. He was the last survivor of ten children. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he returned to play baseball for Newberry College. He then returned to Florence where he worked with the Florence County Sheriff's Office, the State Probation and Parole Board and then retired as Florence County Clerk of Court. He was a longtime member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church, and showed his devotion to his church by serving in many capacities, including Sunday School teacher, the Choir, the Men of the Church, and as a Church Elder. He loved golfing, fishing, and working in his garden, which he shared with many. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Carolyn Lipscomb Gregg, children, James Claussen (Marianne) Gregg, Jr., Carolyn Gregg (Butch) Anderson, John Marshall (Robin) Gregg and David Wayne (Brenda) Gregg; grandchildren; Jay Gregg, Charlie Gregg, Davy Gregg, Colton Gregg, Garrett Gregg, Traci Stokes, Nikki Kirsch and Tricia Robinson; great-grandchildren, Courtney and Carolyn Gregg, Andrew and Brianna Stokes, Walker and Tanner Robinson, Drake, Tessa and Eli Kirsch, McCall, Baylor, Lilly and Liam Gregg; and his sistersin-law; Annie Kate Gregg and Rosa Lee Atwell Gregg. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 16, 2014, at Hopewell Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in Hopewell Cemetery, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hopewell Presbyterian Church, or to Hopewell Cemetery Fund, both at 5314 Old River Road, Florence, SC 29505. Gregg Family, Such a sweet sweet Man.
In our high schools years it was such fun to come to the Gregg's house. Rodney & I have fond memories of your family. You will be in our prayers& I am sure he will be missed by many. My dad really enjoyed playing golf with Boots. Martha Ann sends her prayers also
