A service of worship celebrating Lloyd's life will be held at Whaley Street United Methodist Church, at three o'clock in the afternoon Sunday, January 2, 2011.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking donations be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. 811 W Evergreen Avenue, Suite 303 Chicago, IL 60642 or [email protected]. For information on the service please call (803) 586-3293.
Lloyd was born October 25, 1938, in Columbia, South Carolina to the late William Earl Buff, and Cynthia Higbe Buff.
Lloyd grew up in the Earlwood/Elmwood area. He attended Columbia High School and then joined the Air Force. After the Air Force he began his career as a painter. He and his brother Bill were known as the 'clean cutters.' He, his dad, his sister, and brothers installed wallpaper for a season, and Lloyd continued to paint until Pulmonary Fibrosis took over his lungs. He contracted for Providence Hospital off and on for thirty years. He was the neatest, and fastest painter of his time. Lloyd's favorite hobbies were studying God's Word and playing a good game of golf.
In January of 1977, Lloyd was born again. He and his wife were charter members of First Church of the Living God, and after teaching Sunday School for a few years, Lloyd received the call to preach. In May of 1982 he inherited the position of pastor. He told God that he would try to hold it for three months, because he thought he might be smart enough to do that. He ended up holding the position until death and was deeply beloved by his congregation. He was often called 'A Good Samaritan.'
Surviving are his devoted wife and companion of thirty-six years, Patricia McCurdy Buff; his children, Sheri Buff Varnadoe of Texas, Lincey Buff Teal of Texas, James (Susan) Inman of Florida, Tracey Buff of West Columbia, Tonya Buff Rivers of Lexington, Tammy (Mark) Hendrix of Lexington, Lloyd Scott Buff Jr. of West Columbia, Lois (Michael) Arnett of Lexington, Thomas (Tina) Bessinger Jr. of Swansea, Michael Troy Buff of West Columbia, Johnny (Jackie) Hyatt of Columbia, Tara Buff Shirey of West Columbia, and Ashley (Michael) Manley of Columbia; twenty-two grandchildren with one on the way; three great grandchildren; and brothers William (Doris) Buff Jr. of Columbia, Ronald (Rebecca) Buff of West Columbia, Walter Raymond Buff of Gaston, and sister Cynthia Buff Stone of Gaston.
He was predeceased by his parents, his beloved grandmother Cynthia Higbe, his beautiful daughter Lynette Buff, and his adoring mother-in-law Annie Mae Clark.
Special thanks goes to Lloyd's neighbor, Whaley Street United Methodist Church for the use of their beautiful sanctuary as a place for the service.
Lloyd was an inspiration to many people, and his faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, assured Lloyd that God would never fail him. He will be greatly missed, but his family takes comfort in knowing that he who believes in Jesus, 'though he die, yet shall he live.' (John 11:25-26) All glory be to God. Barr-Price.com (803)356-4411

Buff family, some of the best times I remember as being a young christian was working helping with the youth group and vacation bible school at First Church. I will never forget when Bud and Ronnie baptized me in lake Murray. Bud always had a smile for me and all those who knew him. He was a very uplifting pastor and I will miss him dearly. Thank you for all you did for me Bud, I will never forget what you did to help this struggling single mother.

I met you at one of the lowest points in my life Bud and you never judged me. You opened your church up to me and made me feel like I might not actually be as worthless as I was telling myself I was. Thanks so much for your kindness.

In the short time I have known Pastor Bud, he and his family have made a huge impact on me and on my family. He has made a difference in so many lives in ways he never even knew. I will keep you, his family, in my prayers. Even though he is gone he will remain in our hearts. Sue Singleton

Remember
Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.
