Leesville, South Carolina - Funeral service for Virgil Leaphart, 85, will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Grace Lutheran Church with burial to follow at Leesville Cemetery, 233 North Lee Street, Leesville, SC,. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 8, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Historic Batesburg-Leesville Chapel. Active Pallbearers will be David Frazier, Cliff Kneece, Barry Leaphart, Heyward Leaphart, Duane Long, Jim Oswald, Steve Rich, and Stacy Walker. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, PO Box 333, Gilbert, South Carolina 29054.

Mr. Leaphart entered into eternal rest on April 6, 2024. He was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church in Gilbert, South Carolina, where he served numerous terms on Church Council and the Property Committee. He was also a member of the South Carolina Lutheran Men in Mission Committee of 100 for 48 years. He graduated from Gilbert High School in 1956, where he was a school bus driver and star basketball player. He met his beloved wife, Marie Frazier, at Smoky Valley Skating Rink on August 27, 1957. They married on June 16, 1963, and celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in 2023. He retired in 2012 from Mid-Carolina Electric Co-Op as their longest-serving employee after 53 years of service as a lineman.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marie Leaphart; children, Andrew (Andy) T. Leaphart (Marcie) of Lexington, SC, and Ashley R. Leaphart of Leesville, SC; grandchildren, Austin T. Leaphart and Audrey G. Leaphart.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Clarendon J. Leaphart, Aaron P. Leaphart, Mary L. Matthews, Rosa L. Long, and Allen Z. Leaphart.
