William Quattlebaum Obituary

COLUMBIA — Funeral service for William Ray Quattlebaum, 89, will be held 11 a.m. Monday, October 26, 2009, at North Trenholm Baptist Church with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
 
Mr. Quattlebaum died Friday, October 23, 2009. Born August 15, 1920, in Aiken County, he was a son of the late James Daniel Quattlebaum and Cora Geneva Rouis Quattlebaum. A graduate of Monetta/Ridge Spring High School, Class of 1937, he earned his BS in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina in 1941. He was employed by Burroughs Corporation in Columbia and retired from Unisys Corporation in 1983.
 
Mr. Quattlebaum, a WWII veteran, attained the rank of captain in the U.S. Ordnance Corps. He was a member of the American Legion, an active member of Columbia Civitan Club and a 50-year member of the Acacia Masonic Lodge. A long-time member of North Trenholm Baptist Church, he served as deacon, Sunday School director, choir member, and taught the Major Quattlebaum Sunday School Class.
 
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Ruth Florer Quattlebaum; children, John Ray Quattlebaum (Ann), Jeanne Q. Byrd (Wayne), William F. Quattlebaum (Elizabeth), Mary Q. Murray (Warren); sister, Mrs. Elise Q. Watson of Summerville; grandchildren, stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, David Allen Quattlebaum.
