SULLIVANS ISLAND -- Sandra Harley Jones died at home early Tuesday morning December 12, 2023. She was 82. She would have preferred to live longer but late-stage dementia said no. She is survived by her husband Kenneth (Ken) L. Jones, to whom she was married for a very, very long time. She is also survived by her daughters Jessica Jones Yarborough and Jennifer Jones Shaw, and eight grandchildren. Sandy was a graduate of the College of Charleston. She also graduated from South Carolina School of Law at age 45! She worked for several years as a prosecutor in the Charleston County Solicitor's Office under Solicitor David Schwacke with good friend Missy Wicker. She loved practicing law.
Sandy loved gardening and was partial to white hydrangeas. She loved College of Charleston basketball. Her favorite coaches were John Kresse and Pat Kelsey. She was a yellow-dog Democrat and loved voting and fighting for social injustice issues. Sandy loved New York City, London, and Sullivan's Island. She loved Bloomingdale's and Harrod's and all things shopping. She loved good hotels and restaurants, dogs, good friends, good theater, pop music, the Bee Gees, dancing, stylish clothes and shoes, flying first-class, decorating, and most of all FRIED SHRIMP. She had a great sense of humor. She hated budgets.
Sandy was very fond of her grandchildren. She and her daughter Jessica were an inspiration to each other. Sandy loved her friend and Nurse Ashley Lemon Washington, and Ashley's associate Gigi Russ. Kenny, we were there at your beginning at CHS. You were exceptional young people. Sandra's obituary described her incredible life. Our class was full of special young people destined for success as adults. I left Charleston at 25 and now live in Reno,NV. But I am with you in my heart and mind.

Sandy was an amazing attorney and the consummate Southern woman. And such a sense of style. We worked on opposite sides of the courtroom when she was Family Court Solicitor and I was Juvenile Public Defender, but I admired and respected her and valued our friendship. She was quite a personality! My sincere condolences to Kenneth and her beloved family.
