Sara Hutto Obituary

Sara Boynton Hutto

July 11, 2025 - January 30, 2025

Sara Boynton Hutto, wife of Barry Hutto, of the Providence Community, Holly Hill, S. C., died January 30, 2025. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, February 1, 2025 from 2:00-3:00 P.M. at Providence United Methodist Church, 4833 Old State Road, Holly Hill, S.C. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m., with the Rev. Rebecca Rowell officiating. Burial will follow at the Hutto Family Cemetery, 630 Hutto Market Rd., Holly Hill, S.C. The daughter of the late Sara Beach Boynton and Evander Ashton Boynton, Sara was born July 11, 1956. She graduated from the College of Charleston and became a licensed C.P.A. Sara worked as Secretary at Holly Hill Academy before becoming manager of the family owned Hutto Exxon, until this business was sold. She married Barry Hutto on September 29, 1979, and they were very involved with the lives of their two sons, Richard and Dean, serving for almost 10 years as counselors of the UMYF. During this time, they shepherded a large group of young people to many places, including annual snow skiing trips. Sara was an excellent cook, and her father-in-law once said that no matter how many meals he ate at Barry and Sara's house, she never cooked the same thing twice. Also beginning during the years her sons were teenagers, she hosted a group of their friends every Wednesday night for supper. This crowd could vary from five to twenty, but they were all fed. Even when many of these young men were home from college, they still came to her Wednesday night suppers. Sara was well-known for her love of all animals. She kept the birdfeeders full, fed all stray animals, and had a Koi Pond built in her back yard so she could enjoy them. She always had a number of cats, but usually one dog at a time. Her current dog, Chance, often visited her after she moved to Magnolias of Santee. Her kind nature followed her there also, and those who were a part of her care were touched that she always said "thank you" when they did even the smallest things for her. A naturally friendly person, she never allowed anyone she was with to be a stranger to her. She was an avid reader and generously shared her books (which she preferred to own) with many friends. Sara especially enjoyed the trips that she and Barry took to Charleston, SC, Savannah, GA, and Lake Lure, NC. She had her favorite restaurants in each city. Because the bedrooms in her home had been decorated for boys, when her first granddaughter, Harper, arrived, Sara made one into a paradise especially for a little girl. When Shuler Ann was born, she was treated to times with NAMMY too. Sara is survived by her husband, Barry Hutto; two sons and daughters-in-law Richard Hutto, (Ashlee) and Dean Hutto (Sara); two granddaughters, Harper Hutto and Shuler Ann Hutto, all of the Providence Community, Holly Hill; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bryan and Tami Hutto of St. George; a brother, Van Boynton (Deborah) of Lakeland, FL; and two sisters, Jennifer Boynton and Terry McLeod, both of Walterboro, SC. Deep appreciation is extended to the staff of Magnolias of Santee and to Josephine Sweatman. Pallbearers will be Hank Hutto, Tom Hutto, Laurence Hutto, Jimmy Barry, Mac Shuler, Logan Harris, Woodie West, and Matt Stokes. Memorials may be sent to Providence Recreation Group, c/o Dean Hutto, 444 Shuler Belt Rd., Holly Hill, S.C. 29059. Expressions of sympathy may be viewed or submitted online at avingerfh.com/. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Avinger Funeral Home, 2274 Eutaw Rd, Holly Hill, SC 29059, (803) 496-3434.
