ORA RATHGEB
ALTON — Ora Nell Rathgeb, 90, of Alton, passed away Monday, June 26, 2017 at Alton Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.
She was born January 1, 1927, in Fieldale, Virginia, the daughter of Franklin and Virginia (Wilson) Eanes. She married Harold Dean Rathgeb Sr. on May 1, 1946, in Leaksville, North Carolina, and he preceded her in death May 12, 2011.
Ora was a beloved homemaker and loved sewing for family and friends. She served as a member of Upper Alton Baptist Church for over sixty years, excelling at wedding and bereavement services. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her family.
She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Amy and Steve Klein of Godfrey; four sons and their wives, Ronald and Jody Rathgeb of Jasper, Georgia, Timothy and Victoria Rathgeb of Godfrey, Richard and Barbara Rathgeb of Godfrey, and Daryl and Ann Rathgeb of Alton; a brother and his wife, Thomas "Pete" and Joan Eanes of Cirtz, Virginia; a sister and her husband, Reva and Bill Harris of Eden, North Carolina; twelve grandchildren, Sean Rathgeb, Aaron (Anne) Rathgeb, Craig (Susan) Rathgeb, Brook Indof, Blake Indof, Sarah (Ronnie) Jones, Elizabeth (Sean) Holloway, Brent (Lindsey) Rathgeb, Daryl Rathgeb Jr., Alex Rathgeb, Douglas Klein, and Neal Klein; thirteen great-grandchildren, Austin and Haley Rathgeb, Helen, Katherine, and Molly Rathgeb, Spencer and Myles Marfell, Jordan, Victoria, and Nyah Jones, Evan and Grace Rathgeb, Wil and Jenna Holloway, and Adam and Charlotte Rathgeb; and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Harold, she is preceded in death by her parents, a son, Harold Rathgeb Jr., four brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 29, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.
The funeral service will be held Friday, June 30, 2017, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Brad Donoho officiating.
Burial will take place in Valhalla Memorial Park.
Memorials may be directed to Upper Alton Baptist Church.
