OSCAR BRENNER JR.
ALTON — Oscar William Brenner Jr., 95, of Alton, passed away Friday, Sept. 14, 2018 at 4:03 a.m. at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb. 3, 1923, in Alton, Illinois, the son of Oscar William and June Grace (Nichols) Brenner Sr. On Oct. 16, 1948 he married Edna Henson at St. Matthews Church. She preceded him in death.
Oscar served his country in the United States Marines from 1943 until 1946. He liked telling his story about being in the Army, Navy and Marines all in one day.
He was a member of the Alton VFW Post 1308, where he spent a lot of his time in the game room. Oscar enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and watching horse races. He was a die-hard Cardinal Baseball fan, and was a self-taught harmonica player.
Oscar is survived by four children, Barbara A. Gleason (Mike) of Sarasota, Florida, James W. Brenner Sr. (Barb) of Brighton, Illinois, Pat L. Davis (Tom) of Delhi, Illinois, and Bob Brenner (Barb) of Bunker Hill, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Shan Casey (Jay Domen), Chris Davis (Amber), Laura Sams (Brett), James Brenner Jr., Jen Royer (Brandon), Brian Brenner (Sarah), and Melissa Brenner; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edna; and a sister, Gloria Widel.
A visitation will be held Sept. 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Elias Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday Sept. 18 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alton VFW Post 1308.
Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
