David R. Essig Jr.

David R. Essig Jr., 76, of Peckville, passed away peacefully on Friday at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara Mensky Essig.

David was the son of the late David R. Essig and the late Marion Nogick. He was born in New Jersey. He was a graduate of Lakeland High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He went on to open his own business DR Essig Building Contractor. After closing his business, he worked for the Commonwealth of Pa. for centers for Scranton School for the Deaf, Whithaven Center and Clarks Summit State Hospital.

David was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his children, Tanya, Muncy; Michelle Guse and husband, Michael, Scranton; and Jason Essig and wife, Deborah, Jessup; grandchildren, Johnathan, Kevin and Hope Essig, Jessup; brother, Alfred Essig and wife, Maria, Greenfield Twp.; and sister, Anne Ghent and husband, Frank, Greenfield Twp.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from St. Michael's Orthodox Church, Jermyn. Viewing from the Battenberg Funeral Home, 363 Washington Ave., Jermyn,

Monday, 4 to 7 p.m. Parastas, 7 p.m. Masks are encouraged to be worn at funeral home and for service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Michael's Russian Orthodox Church, Jermyn.
