James Burne Obituary
Born March 13, 1973, he was the son of Dr. James L. and Mary Lou Nappi Burne. Raised in the Scranton area, he graduated from Abington Heights High School in 1992, where he was captain of the football team. James also graduated from the University of Scranton in 1996, with a Bachelor of Science in biology and chemistry. James was a financial adviser at Pro Equities Inc., Bankers Life Securities Inc. and a captive licensed insurance agent with Bankers Life & Casualty Co., Sarasota.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his son, Vincenzo Burne, 5, the light of his life and best friend; brothers, Dr. Mark C. Burne, Sarasota; attorney Matthew J. Burne, Erie; and Mary C. Burne, Miami Beach, Fla.; and his devoted companion, Danielle Elardo.
James is remembered for the love he had for his son, "Cenz," family, friends and the many lives he touched. He enjoyed the beach, working on his tan, traveling, working out and fishing with Cenz. He will be truly missed but never forgotten.
A memorial Mass was celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, at 11 a.m. at St. Martha Catholic Church, 200 N. Orange Ave., Sarasota.

To the Burne family, I only met Jim a couple of times because the DeStefano family moved to the Baltimore County area in Pennsylvania when I was in third grade. I remember visiting Jim's apartment in one of Grandpa Fatt's apartment buildings in downtown Scranton. I thought he was one of the most handsome men I had ever seen in my life and I am reminded of that when I look at his picture on this memorial site. Also remembering the five Fatt sisters and all the grandkids that I used to play with at the large gatherings like christenings and birthday parties. A lot of the gatherings held in the Nappi's back yard! I miss all my cousins and hope to see them sometime in the future. Love to Mary Lou and Jim. Cousin Judi

I remember him in training class back 11/15. Then around the office. Then next to me in Oct 2016 talking about his son and grateful dead band. Now I have his photo at my desk and I ask God to tell him hello for me. My faith says there is eternity after this life. You are so handsome and this office is empty without you. Another post: I just came across a picture Mary Lou had sent a few years back of the whole family and there Jim was as handsome as ever and I admired the beauty of this family all over again. Dear Burne family,
I was an agent at Bankers in Melbourne & Sarasota and so admired James. He was a swell guy. VERY humble, yet so successful. He was and still is a very fine example of how hard work and dedication will create leadership and promise.
I have since moved on in the insurance world and think of James when sales aren't going too well for me. What would James Burne do in this case? He would not give up..... That's when things pick up!

Dear Burne Family,
My wife and I just heard today (November 28th)about James' passing. We have been clients of his since 2007. He had just visited with us on August 19th. Our prayers are with you and all the family. He spoke lovingly of his family to us when he came to call. We appreciated his help with all the stuff that comes with retirement, medicare, etc. We considered him a dear friend.
He was a knowlegeable young man and will be sorely missed.

Although my husband and I only knew James for the past 3 years, on a professional level, we instantly recognized how bright and warm he was. We spent much time listening to great stories about his family, particularly his special little boy, during his annual visits. I knew Jim only briefly when we both went to the U of S in 1995-96. We met at the gym there. He was this strong, fit guy and I was just doing what I could to put up a few pounds. But Jim didn't judge me or anything like that. Rather, he went out of his way to help me and encourage me to feel good about trying. I hope and pray that good memories like that, with God's love, comfort you and that little Grandson of yours who, if he as at all like his Dad, will bring lots of good to whoever he meets.

Such unbelievably sad news. I have so many memories with Jimmy, I wouldn't know where to begin. OK, I do - I'd begin with him teaching a breakdancing class in 1984! Jimmy was always one of the kindest people I knew, and one of the most fun as well. His smile was infectious! Even though I hadn't seen him in a few years, I always enjoyed seeing how happy he looked in his pictures with Cenz.
Rest in Peace, Jimmy. You truly will be missed, but never forgotten.
