Joseph Kwiec Obituary

Joseph S. Kwiec, 90, a resident of the Gino Merli Veterans Center, Scranton, and formerly of Dickson City, died Thursday at the center. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary Licwinko Kwiec, on Dec. 17, 2006. They had been married 58 years at the time of her death.

Born in Osceola Mills, Pa., son of the late Anthony and Ann Sokoloski Kwiec, he was a member of St. Mary's Visitation Church, Dickson City, and he attended Olyphant public schools. He had served with the Merchant Marines during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post 665, Dickson City. Before retirement, he was employed for 38 years by Wayne Crushed Stone, Scranton, and he was a member of the Operating Engineers 542.

He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother who enjoyed gardening and fishing. He was a devoted Philadelphia Phillies fan, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Lekarz and husband, Ronald, Ellicott City, Md.; and Peggy Uscowskas and husband, Bob, Clarks Summit; three sons, Joseph and wife, Bonnie, King George, Va.; Paul, Dickson City; and Tony and wife, Michelle, Carbondale; seven grandchildren, Joseph, Matthew, Aaron, Stephen, Kristina, Anna and Paul; three step-grandchildren, Tina, Angela and Denise; three step-great-grandchildren, Samantha, Koen and Kaiden; three sisters, Stella Guzzi, Scranton; Lottie Bednarz and Elizabeth Wojciechowski, both of New Jersey; nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Ann Koskowicz, Helen Monczka, Rose Senner and Mary Waclowski.

The funeral will be Saturday with Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Visitation Church, Dickson City. Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery, Dickson City. There will be no public calling hours.
