Philip Saar Obituary

Philip Saar, 70, a lifelong resident of Taylor, died Friday afternoon in the V.A. Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre.

Born on June 11, 1947, and son of the late Stanley and Romayne Rafferty Saar, Philip attended the former Taylor-Moosic High School. He joined the Marine Corps in 1966 before entering the Vietnam War. Upon honorable discharge from the service, he raised his family while working for Conrail Consolidated Rail Corp., before his retirement.

He loved his Harley Davidson, riding every opportunity he had. A proud Marine, he was also an active member of the Northeast Pennsylvania Chapter of the Friends of the Forgotten. He was awarded first place in marksmanship from the Black Sheep Squadron Local 192. He lived for his kids and his grandchildren who will forever miss him.

His family wishes to acknowledge and thank the entire staffs of the V.A. Medical Center's S.P.U. and Hospice, as well as Dr. Robert Paulino, for the amazing care collectively given to Phil while he was under their care.

Surviving are four adoring children, Eric Saar of Taylor, Rhea Marianelli and husband, Robert, of Old Forge; Phillippe (P.J.) Kilvitis and husband, Robert (Bob), of Taylor; and Helen Saar of Scranton; siblings, Stanley Saar, Calif., Mary Kovaleski, Fla.; Margaret Wandell, Texas; and Phyllis Johnson of Scranton; former wife, Margit Saar of Scranton; eight beloved grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

An infant brother, James Saar, also preceded him in death.

Final military rites and interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Arrangements, Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge.
