Robert Jayne Obituary

By the time you read this, I will have been with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for several days. I was born July 5, 1926, to Wilbur "Alton" Jayne and Mildred McDonald Jayne. I would have given in to leaving this world much earlier had it not been for my amazing wife of nearly 72 years, Ruth Williams, "My Ruthie."

I proudly served my country in the United States Army, serving in Heidelberg, Germany. Prior to retirement at the age of 84, I worked with and for my brothers at Jayne Brothers as office manager, and, in later years, I had the pleasure to work with my nephew, Billy Jayne, and his sons. My life and love was spent devoted to my faith, my church, my wife and my family. If anyone had a better life, I couldn't imagine it. I have seen many changes over my 91-plus years on this Earth, but some things were always constant in my life: my God, supplying all my needs, my love for Christ and the love I shared with my wife, the former Ruth Williams of Clarks Summit.

Together, Ruth and I raised six children in Archbald, and they blessed us with 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and, oh, yes, two great-great-grandchildren. I was a father to six wonderful children, Sharon Greenaway and husband, Bruce Greenaway (2001), of Arlington, Texas; Bishop Robert Jayne and wife, Eileen, San Marcos, Texas; the Rev. David A. Jayne and wife, Esther, Springfield, Mo.; Gary Jayne and wife, DeDe, Reno, Nev.; Darryl Jayne and wife, Suzy, Eynon; and Lisa Browning and husband, Charles, Peckville. Each of the children brought their own special love and style to our family, and I wouldn't trade any of them for anything this world could have offered. Although I am gone from this world, I know they will always remember me, and I know I will always have a special place in their hearts and lives.

I was a faithful and devoted member of Peckville Assembly of God Church for over 70 years. With utmost pride and love, I served on the church's official board of deacons for over 50 years and was a leader of boys for the Royal Rangers program.

Since one of the loves I had in this life here on Earth was children, both mine and others, I would like to ask, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Robert and Ruth Jayne Children's Ministry Fund c/o: Community Bank, N.A., 1700 N. Keyser Ave., Scranton, PA 18508.

As I close this message to my family and friends, I ask God to bless each and every one of you, and may you have as rich a life in Christ as I have known. Many sincere thanks to the caregivers at Allied Skilled Nursing, second-floor north, and to the hundreds of people who prayed for me and my wife.

Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. with a celebration of life to follow at 5 at Peckville Assembly of God, 3364 Scranton-Carbondale Highway, Blakely.

Funeral arrangements graciously handled by Robert Decker Funeral Home, Peckville.

The Dale brothers, send their sincere condolences to the Jayne Family. What a kind and caring human being he was. And as someone has already said, he was a part of the Greatest Generation. Who now will stand in the gap, and take his place? It will be a tough roll to fill. I have always considered Peckville my hometown, and Peckville Assembly, my home church. We love each and every one of you and pray that God's grace will see you through this time of sorrow. The family Patriarch has made his transition, from life on this planet, to a city, whose builder and maker is God.

I came to know Mr. Jayne many years ago as a teenager. Every time our paths crossed over the more than forty years since, Mr. Jayne greeted and treated me as though I were his closest friend. That's the way he treated everyone, and he did so with complete sincerity.
My hope for Mrs. Jayne is that she and her large family find total comfort in the endless happy memories they have of this truly exceptional man. A finer gentleman I have never known.

Truly Bob was a part of the "Greatest Generation". This world has lost a stalwart but he has been "Promoted" to his Heavenly Home . He lived his life for the Lord now he is at Home with his Savior.

To the Jayne family: You are in our thoughts and our prayers. Bob will be missed.

To the Jayne family;
I didn't know your father, but I came across his obituary today. His words touched my heart. He seemed to be an exceptionally kind, loving, grateful and devoted man. He was a Gentleman, and certainly the caliber of man that isn't very common nowadays.
I'm so very sorry for your loss.
I hope in some small way, the fact that your father's words, and spirit, touched a stranger's heart today, may be of comfort.

I was very sorry to read that Bob had passed away. I knew Bob and his two brothers by doing business with their company. He, they were, probably the most honest businessmen I ever dealt with. I went into the office one day to have them insulate a building I just purchased. Gave Bob the address and he said wait. He went to the files and found that the one side of the building had already been done. He did not have to tell me. I would have never known. Another job I found that it was underestimated for materials used. I offered to pay, but was told, no we gave you a quote!!
I used their company and only their company for all of my buildings. Probably about 30. Never had a problem.
The world is a little less good without Bob, but heaven has been enriched by his presence.
